Halloween Night in Monrovia

The pirate ship on Hillcrest is a big hit. Pirates and skeletons and even a broadside of cannons. Hundreds of people crowded around to see.

The Harvest Festival at Calvary Chapel Monrovia was crowded with families enjoying games, food, music, and a petting zoo.

As always, Alta Vista north of Hillcrest was blocked off and the street hosted a party.

Fluffy Tito - Couch Potato and Walking Buddy

Tito is a 12-year-old Australian Shepherd/Chow mix. His soft and fluffy fur makes him ideal to cuddle with, and his energy level is just right for anyone who wants a couch potato sometimes, and a good walking buddy at other times.

What really gets him excited and playful is playing fetch. He loves chasing tennis balls, and prances back to you with a look of pride that he is still able to catch a bouncing ball just like a young pup.

Tito looks like a large dog, but he is only about 55 pounds under all that fur. He’s an ideal size for trips in the car, going on hikes or just hanging out on the couch.

Senior pets like Tito can easily get overlooked, but this sweet guy will has all the best qualities that any pet parent is look ing for- he's loving, friendly, and a great companion. Tito is ready to make himself right at home with you!

Pasadena Humane’s Seniors for Seniors program allows all dogs and cats over five years old like Tito to be adopted for free by anyone over sixty.

The adoption fee for dogs is $150. All dog adoptions include spay or neuter, microchip, and age-appropriate vaccines.

Monrovian Makanvand Opens Financial Services Business

Lifelong Monrovia resident Eva Del Real Makanvand has opened M.A.H.B. Financial Services at 423 E Huntington Dr. The business provides financial services including investment advice, estate planning, and insurance. Makanvand, a Monrovia High School graduate with more than 10 years of financial services experience, wants to help Monrovia residents achieve financial goals regardless of background or income. M.A.H.B. Financial Services is open Monday-Friday 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Makanvand has volunteered at Foothill Unity Center, belongs to the Monrovia and Arcadia chambers of commerce, and mentors those pursuing financial careers.

A Moment in Monrovia History: Laurel and Hardy at Monrovia Airport

Comedians Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy with Al Blackburn and Bud Hanser at the Monrovia Airport in approximately 1943 or 1944. Gary Boen writes that the two comedians were at the airport for the filming of the Big Noise. The plane in the background, he writes, is a Waco Cabin; the old mechanic later said the plane was being repaired, which is why the wings are off. It started on fire by accident; the right wing was on fire on the ground. Blackburn was owner of the Monrovia Airport. From the Gary Boen collection. See full details here.

~ Monrovia Historic Preservation Group's Last Walking Tour of 2023 is tomorrow, Saturday, Oct. 28, at 10 a.m. The tour lasts two hours and costs $5 per person. Meet at the SE corner of Myrtle and Palm at 10 a.m. to learn more about Monrovia's past.

~ With the rainy season coming up, the city would like you to switch off sprinklers while it is raining and for 48 hours after the rain ends to conserve water. It also recommends installing weather-based irrigation controllers that automatically shut off sprinklers when it rains, using barrels to capture rainwater for later landscaping watering use, and installing drought-tolerant landscape.

More Native and Mediterranean Vegetation in Front of Monrovia High

Monrovia High is undergoing a landscaping project to create a greener campus. The project is being carried out by Amigos de los Rios, which brought in arborists to assess the health of the four oak trees. To support these trees, irrigation has been removed from around their roots and they have been surrounded with high-grade mulch. The grass in front of the school is being removed to make space for native and Mediterranean plants.

During the last seven-day period, the Police Department handled 388 service events, resulting in 72 investigations.

Fraud
October 19 at 9:00 a.m., an employee from a bank in the 200 block of S. Myrtle called to report that two adult male subjects pulled a skimmer device off an ATM machine. Officers arrived and contacted a bank employee who had retrieved the skimming device. This investigation is continuing.

October 19 at 10:10 a.m., officers were dispatched to a bank in the 400 block of W. Foothill regarding a skimmer device on an ATM machine. Officers arrived and made contact with a bank employee who was in possession of the skimming device. This investigation is continuing.

Burglary
October 19 at 7:09 p.m., a residential burglary was reported in the 400 block of Violet. Officers arrived and made contact with the owner who reported tools were taken. This investigation is continuing.

Shoplifting – Suspect Arrested
October 19 at 8:48 p.m., an officer was patrolling the 1600 block of S. Mountain when he saw a suspect being chased from a store by employees. The officer joined the pursuit on foot and caught the suspect. The suspect was found to be in possession of stolen goods. The suspect was arrested and taken into custody.

Theft
October 20 at 6:09 a.m., a victim in the 100 block of N. Primrose called to report a window of his vehicle was smashed and items were stolen. This investigation is continuing.

Grand Theft
October 20 at 10:34 am, a caller in the 500 block of W. Lime reported the catalytic converter to her vehicle was stolen. This investigation is continuing.

Theft
October 20 at 11:37 a.m., a victim parked his electric bike in front of a store in the 1600 block of S. Mountain, when he walked out of the store his electric bike was gone. This investigation is continuing.

Injury Traffic Collision
October 20 at 3:08 p.m., an injury traffic collision was reported in the area of Mountain and Central. One of the parties involved complained of pain.

Missing Person
October 20 at 4:33 p.m., while patrolling the 1600 block of S. Myrtle, an officer was flagged down by an adult female subject. She said her son was missing. Officers went to numerous locations, but were unable to locate him. He was entered as a missing person.

Injury Traffic Collision
October 20 at 8:34 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 900 block of E. Lemon regarding a traffic collision involving a vehicle and a bicyclist. The bicyclist suffered injuries and was transported to a hospital for treatment. This investigation is continuing.

Vandalism
October 20 at 11:46 p.m., a caller in the 500 block of S. Myrtle called to report a trail of blood leading into a business. Officers arrived and discovered the business had a damaged window. This investigation is continuing.

Driving Under the Influence / Hit and Run Traffic Collision – Suspect Arrested
October 21 at 2:13 a.m., an officer patrolling the 100 block of W. Foothill heard a disturbance in a nearby restaurant drive-though. An investigation revealed a hit and run traffic collision. The suspect vehicle was located nearby and the driver was located a short distance away. A DUI investigation revealed the driver was under the influence. The driver was arrested and transported to the MPD jail to be held for a sobering period.

Mental Evaluation
October 21 at 4:46 p.m., a subject walked into a business in the 900 block of E. Huntington and told an employee that he was suicidal. Officers arrived and located the subject. It was determined he was a danger to himself. He was transported to a medical facility for a mental evaluation.

Warrant Arrest – Suspect Arrested
October 21 at 5:27 p.m., a resident in the 100 block of N. Encinitas called to report that a family member was inside his home and was refusing to leave. Officers arrived and made contact with the subject. A computer check revealed the subject had a warrant for his arrest. He was arrested and taken into custody.

Bear
October 21 at 7:21 p.m., a resident in the 600 block of Norumbega called to report that a bear broke into the house. Officers arrived and reported the incident to CA Fish and Game.

Weapon Offense
October 21 at 7:58 p.m. a caller in the 700 block of W. Huntington called to report that a vehicle drove alongside him and an occupant pointed a firearm at him. This investigation is continuing.

Attempted Murder – Suspect Arrested
October 21 at 9:27 p.m., officers were dispatched to a hotel in the 900 block of S. Fifth regarding a female heard screaming and a baby crying on the phone. Officers arrived and located a female, children, and a male subject. The female had injuries to her face and neck caused by the male subject. The weapon was located. The male subject was arrested and taken into custody.

Hit and Run Traffic Collision
October 22 at 1:00 p.m., a caller in the 400 block of W. Palm reported a vehicle crashed into several vehicles during the night and fled the scene. This investigation is continuing.

Hit and Run Traffic Collision
October 22 at 1:44 p.m., a hit and run traffic collision was reported in the area of Mountain and Royal Oaks. The caller stated that someone had sideswiped him while he was driving and then left the scene. This investigation is continuing.

Mental Evaluation
October 22 at 2:49 p.m., a caller in the 900 block of Genoa reported that she was having thoughts of harming herself. Officers arrived and determined she was a danger to herself. She was transported to a medical facility for a mental evaluation.

October 22 at 11:32 p.m., witnesses called to report seeing a male adult subject jump from the 210 freeway overpass retaining wall onto Mountain. Officers arrived and located the subject inside a nearby business. He had shattered the front window to the business before crawling inside. It was determined the subject was a danger to himself. He was transported to a medical facility for a mental evaluation.

Burglary
October 23 at 2:49 a.m., officers responded to an alarm activation at a business in the 300 block of W. Huntington. When officers arrived they found the front window shattered and the interior of the business had been ransacked. No one was found in the business. This investigation is continuing.

Grand Theft Auto
October 23 at 12:15 p.m., a dealership employee in the 1300 block of S. Mountain called to report an embezzled vehicle. Earlier in the week a subject came into the dealership and used someone else's identity to purchase a vehicle. This investigation is continuing.

Petty Theft / Shoplifting – Suspect Arrested
October 23 at 1:28 p.m., a caller in the 1600 block of S. Mountain called to report they were following a suspect who just stole items from their store. Officers arrived and located the suspect. The stolen item were recovered. The suspect was arrested and taken into custody.

Assault with a Deadly Weapon

October 23 at 10:42 p.m., a victim walked into the MPD lobby to report someone had pointed a gun at him a few minutes earlier at the intersection of Lime and Primrose while he was stopped at a stop sign. Officers searched the area but were unable to locate a suspect. This investigation is continuing.

Driving Under the Influence – Suspect Arrested
October 24 at 12:48 a.m., an officer was patrolling the area of California and Huntington when he saw a motorist commit a driving violation. The officer conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver. The driver displayed signs of being intoxicated. A DUI investigation revealed the driver was under the influence. The driver was arrested and transported to the MPD jail to be held for a sobering period.

October 24 at 7:08 a.m., a domestic violence was reported in the 800 block of W. Walnut. An ex-boyfriend and ex-girlfriend got into an argument and one of them became aggressive. This investigation is continuing.

Embezzlement
October 24 at 9:42 a.m., a business in the 800 block of W. Foothill reported that an employee had been embezzling funds. This investigation is continuing.

Petty Theft
October 24 at 12:34 p.m., a victim in the 1600 block of S. Mountain discovered his jacket had been stolen with his car keys inside. This investigation is continuing.

Hit and Run Traffic Collision
October 24 at 1:03 p.m., a vehicle in a parking lot in the 700 block of W. Huntington was struck by the suspect vehicle, who fled the scene. This investigation is continuing.

Injury Traffic Collision
October 24 at 1:23 p.m., an injury traffic collision was reported in the 1400 block of California. One party complained of pain, but refused to be transported to a hospital for treatment.

Vehicle Burglary
October 24 at 5:13 p.m., a victim in the 400 block of W. Duarte discovered her vehicle had been burglarized while parked. This investigation is continuing.

Public Intoxication – Suspect Arrested
October 25 at 8:01 a.m., a caller reported from the 800 block of W. Colorado that a male adult subject was walking around campus carrying an open container. Officers arrived and located the subject. An investigation revealed he was too intoxicated to care for himself. He was arrested and transported to the MPD jail to be held for a sobering period.

October 25 at 12:40 p.m., a witness in the 2600 block of S. Myrtle called to report several suspects removing a catalytic converter from a vehicle. This investigation is continuing.

Vehicle Burglary
October 25 at 12:42 p.m., a vehicle burglary was reported in a parking lot in the 400 block of W. Duarte. The victim reported that when she returned to her vehicle he noticed it had been burglarized, her wallet was stolen, and unauthorized charges were made on her credit card. This investigation is continuing.

October 25 at 3:01 p.m., a victim found his apartment's storage unit in the 700 block of W. Foothill had been vandalized. This investigation is continuing.

October 25 at 3:33 p.m., a caller in the 200 block of W. Palm reported her phone had been hacked and an unknown suspect attempted to steal her identity. This investigation is continuing.

Grand Theft
October 25 at 4:16 p.m., a resident in the 2800 block of Peck reported that the catalytic converter was stolen from his vehicle. This investigation is continuing.

Drug Activity – Suspect Arrested
October 25 at 4:49 p.m., a caller in a gas station in the 1500 block of S. Myrtle reported an adult male subject was harassing customers. Officers arrived and contacted the subject. An investigation revealed that the subject was in possession of a controlled substance and he had several warrants. He was arrested and taken into custody.

Calvary Chapel Monrovia (Myrtle and Cherry) will hold a Harvest event on October 31 from 6-8 p.m. as an alternative youth event to Halloween. There will be free games and free candy as well as food, a petting zoo and more.

Had breakfast recently at the Peach Cafe, on the north side of Colorado near Ivy. Got the Nuts and Bolts for $13.95, scrambled eggs, toast, fruit, and bacon (Yum!), and a cup of coffee. All excellent!

Gentle Chester Dressed for Early Halloween

Chester is a gentle senior Labrador mix who is looking for a comfortable bed in a loving home. Chester is nine years young, and just hitting his stride. He enjoys going for walks in the park so he can smell all the smells and plod happily along. 

This handsome guy is also fun- he likes playing in the yard, exploring and having a laugh, even if that means wearing a cow Halloween costume. 

Like most dogs his age, Chester loves having a place to nap in the sun. He has spent some time in a foster home and the foster family reported that he is housetrained, likes to sleep on the couch and enjoys a nice belly rub. What a good boy! 

Chester is one of many dogs over 31 pounds that can be adopted for only $10 during the Adopt-a-Boo promotion.

Learn Tree Grafting at Garden Club

Speaker “AJ” on tree grafting at next Garden Club meeting, Oct. 24 at 6:30 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 101 E. Foothill. AJ was born and raised in Southern California, grew up in a neighborhood full of fruit trees: persimmon, avocado, fig, citrus, guava, loquat, apple, and banana trees were everywhere. After harvesting the fruits from his first avocado tree, gardening became an obsession. He discovered grafting and set out to learn everything he could about it. His first successful graft began on his avocado tree, after which he began grafting onto every tree in his yard. He now has a number of multi-grafted trees in his yard, and has created multi-grafted trees for his family and friends.

Larry Spicer on Maple Avenue in 1956. Larry Spicer's parents, Samuel and Geneva, came from Farrell, Mississippi in the 1950s - following Uncle Enoch. Eight Spicer siblings came to Monrovia. Monrovia Police: Drunk Burglary Suspect Arrested; Car Roll-Over; Neighbor Knocks Woman to Ground, Gets Ticket; Etc.

During the last seven-day period, the Police Department handled 365 service events, resulting in 59 investigations.

Driving Under the Influence – Suspect Arrested
October 12 at 1:43 a.m., an officer was patrolling the 1400 block of S. Myrtle when he saw a vehicle commit a traffic violation. The officer conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver. The driver displayed symptoms of being under the influence and a DUI investigation confirmed that the driver was under the influence of alcohol. The driver was arrested and transported to the MPD jail to be held for a sobering period. 

Residential Burglary – Suspect Arrested
October 12 at 3:41 a.m., an alarm company reported an alarm activation in the 500 block of N. Alta Vista. Officers arrived and discovered the front door had been forced open. The location appeared to have been rummaged through and a female subject was found passed out on the ground inside the home. An investigation revealed the female subject was intoxicated. She was arrested and taken into custody.

October 12 at 11:01 a.m., two vehicles collided in the intersection of Monterey and Chestnut, causing one of the vehicles to jump a curb and hit a small tree. One of the parties complained of pain.

October 12 at 5:07 p.m., a caller reported a traffic collision in the area of Myrtle and Cypress. Both parties complained of pain.

October 12 at 10:44 p.m., officers were dispatched to the intersection of Wildrose and Bradbury regarding a single vehicle traffic collision where the vehicle had rolled over. The occupants were successfully extracted and a passenger was transported to the hospital for minor injuries.

October 13 at 1:00 a.m., an employee of a business in the 100 block of E. Olive reported a fight in progress. Officers arrived and located two victims and two suspects. Two suspects were arrested and taken into custody.

October 13 at 5:49 a.m., officers were dispatched to the area of Foothill and Mayflower regarding a vehicle burglary. This investigation is continuing.

October 13 at 7:57 a.m., a resident in the 500 block of Hacienda reported that her vehicle’s catalytic converter had been stolen. This investigation is continuing.

October 13 at 8:12 a.m., a victim in the 300 block of E. Olive called to report that his vehicle had been stolen. This investigation is continuing.

October 13 at 8:44 a.m., a resident in the 500 block of Terrado called to report his catalytic converter had been from his vehicle. This investigation is continuing. 

Hit and Run / Driving Under the Influence – Suspect Arrested
October 13 at 11:30 a.m., a caller in the area of Alta Vista and Central reported that he witnessed and a heard a vehicle crash into a parked vehicle and then drive away. Officers arrived and detained the driver. A DUI investigation revealed the driver was under the influence. She was arrested and transported to the MPD jail to be held for a sobering period. 

Battery – Suspect Arrested
October 13 at 1:33 p.m., a resident in the 200 block of E. Central called to report that her neighbor had battered her causing her to fall to the ground. Officers arrived and an investigation confirmed the resident’s claim. The neighbor was arrested, cited, and released at the scene. 

Theft by False Pretenses
October 13 at 2:45 p.m., a theft was reported in the 100 block of W. Foothill. The victim was approached by a male subject who convinced her to that he had inherited a large amount of money and needed her help. Municipal Code Violation
October 13 at 11:50 p.m., officers were made aware of a group of subjects who were loitering and camping in a park in the 1600 block of S. Myrtle after hours. Officers contacted three subject. They were cited and released at the scene. 

Commercial Burglary
October 14 at 7:32 a.m., an employee from a business in the 3000 block of S. Peck called to report that the business was broken into sometime during the night. An investigation revealed that material was taken. This investigation is continuing. 

Mental Evaluation
October 14 at 11:03 a.m., a caller in the 1600 block of Radford stated a female jumped into a pool and attempted to drown herself. Paramedics and officers arrived and checked on the well-being of the female. She was taken to a hospital and held for a mental evaluation.

October 14 at 10:34 p.m., callers reported that they had observed subjects in a park in the 1600 block of S. Myrtle loitering and camping after hours. Officers arrived and made contact with three subjects. The subject were arrested and taken into custody.

October 15 at 6:46 a.m., an employee called from a business in the 100 block of W. Duarte to report that a customer went into the office, took money from an unlocked safe, and left. This investigation is continuing.

October 15 at 8:31 a.m., an owner of a business in the 100 block of W. Foothill reported the front window to the business was shattered and merchandise was taken. This investigation is continuing.

October 15 at 2:02 p.m., a victim in the 600 block of W. Huntington called to report that someone had stolen her cell phone while the phone was in a shopping cart. This investigation is continuing. 

Warrant / Weapon Offense – Suspect Arrested
October 15 at 5:42 p.m., an officer witnessed a vehicle commit a traffic violation in the area of Lime and Myrtle and conducted a traffic stop. A computer check of the driver revealed he had a warrant for his arrest. A search revealed he was in possession of weapons. He was arrested and taken into custody. 

Theft
October 16 at 11:00 a.m., a victim was shopping in a store in the 600 block of W. Huntington when an adult female subject distracted her while another subject took her cell phone from her purse. This investigation is continuing. 

Suspicious Person
October 16 at 6:14 p.m., a resident in the 500 block of W. Scenic reported a suspicious adult male subject. Officers arrived and were unable to locate the subject. This investigation is continuing. 

Vandalism
October 16 at 6:24 p.m., a caller in the 200 block of Linwood reported graffiti in an alley. A report was taken and graffiti removal was notified. This investigation is continuing. 

Hit and Run Traffic Collision – Suspect Arrested
October 16 at 8:27 p.m., a victim in the area of Huntington and Magnolia called to report that another motorist collided into him and fled. Officers searched for the suspect but were  unable to locate him. The suspect vehicle was later found abandoned. The suspect was later located, arrested, and taken into custody. 

Attempt Burglary
October 17 at 6:15 a.m., a resident in the 100 block of N. Encinitas called to report a possible burglary. A fence that had been damaged but repaired appeared to have been damaged again and there was an open door to the residence. This investigation is continuing.

October 17 at 6:24 a.m., a caller in the 400 block of W. Maple called to report that his parked vehicle had been hit. The suspect vehicle did not stop nor leave information for the owner. This investigation is continuing.

October 17 at 6:30 a.m., a victim in the 300 block of S. Alta Vista called to report that his vehicle had been stolen from where it was parked on the street. This investigation is continuing.

October 17 at 5:26 p.m., a resident in the 300 block of Valle Vista called to report that their parked vehicle had been side-swiped and the other driver did not stop. This investigation is continuing.

October 17 at 8:23 p.m., an employee of a hardware store in the 1600 block of S. Mountain reported that they were detaining a female adult subject for shoplifting. Officers arrived and made contact with the suspect. The suspect would not provide her information to officers and a search also revealed that she was in possession of drug paraphernalia. She was arrested and taken into custody.

October 18 at 8:50 a.m., officers were dispatched to the 500 block of Norumbega regarding an alarm activation. Two subjects were detained and found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia. One of the subject was arrested, cited, and released at the scene.

October 18 at 8:55 a.m., a victim in the 1800 block of 6th Avenue reported a male subject working in a complex assaulted him. Officers arrived and determined the subject became upset and punched the victim. He was arrested and taken into custody. 

Injury Traffic Collision
October 18 at 1:40 p.m., an injury traffic collision was reported in the 1400 block of S. Mountain. Both drivers suffered injuries and were transported to a hospital for treatment. 

Residential Burglary
October 18 at 1:44 p.m., a caller in the 400 block of Prospect reported her house was broken into during the night. Officers determined the suspect broke the glass to a rear door and entered the house. This investigation is continuing 

Boys & Girls Club to Hold Lights On Afterschool Open House Oct. 26

Monrovia‘s Boys & Girls Club of the Foothills will host its annual Lights On Afterschool open house on Oct. 26, 5-7 p.m. at the Mary Wilcox Teen Center, 843 E. Olive. The event will showcase student art and STEM projects, and is part of a nationwide campaign to emphasize the significance of afterschool programs in supporting students' well-being and academic growth. Tommy Would Love to Give You a Dog Kiss ... He's Still Working on Manners

Tommy is a young Great Dane/Rhodesian Ridgeback mix who is excited to meet everyone! This big puppy is just shy of 90 pounds, and he is 100 percent fun.

Tommy greets everyone with a tail that wags his entire body. He’s so happy to see you that he may be tempted to bounce into your lap or try to give you a kiss, but the volunteers at Pasadena Humane have been working with him on his manners. It’s a work in progress, but we know he’s going to get it!

Tommy has also been great around other dogs. He really likes to meet new dogs and if they’re interested in playing, he’s all for it! If not, that’s OK, too. He can read the room.

This happy pup is ready for whatever fun you can cook up!

Drug Arrest – Suspect Arrested
October 5 at 3:08 a.m., an employee from a hotel in the 700 block of W. Huntington reported an unknown male subject was in a room that should have been vacant. Officers arrived and contacted the male subject. A search of the subject revealed he was in possession of drug paraphernalia. He was arrested and taken into custody.

Mail Theft
October 5 at 7:31 a.m., a caller in the 1600 block of S. Mayflower called to report that mailboxes were broken into. This investigation is continuing.

Commercial Burglary
October 5 at 8:40 a.m., an employee from a business in the 1600 block of S. Magnolia reported a storage shed had been broken into and electric equipment had been stolen. This investigation is continuing.

Non-Injury Traffic Collision
October 5 at 5:43 p.m., a traffic collision was reported in the area of Mountain and Olive. No injuries were reported.

October 5 at 5:45 p.m., a hit and run traffic collision was reported in the area of Duarte and Encino. Officers arrived and determined that a vehicle sideswiped another vehicle and did not stop to exchange information. This investigation is continuing.

Family Disturbance – Suspect Arrested
October 5 at 6:13 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 1700 block of Pilgrim regarding a family disturbance. Upon arrival, officers determined that a family argument took place and during the dispute, the husband hit the wife. The husband was arrested and taken into custody.

Runaway
October 5 at 8:51 p.m., an officer was dispatched to the 100 block of N. Ivy regarding a runaway juvenile report. This investigation is continuing.

Drug Activity – Suspect Arrested
October 6 at 2:58 a.m., while patrolling the 700 block of W. Huntington, an officer saw a bicyclist violate a vehicle code. The officer conducted a traffic stop and contacted the rider who appeared to be intoxicated. A computer check revealed the rider had two warrants and a search of the subject revealed he was in possession of drug paraphernalia. He was arrested and transported to the MPD jail to be held for a sobering period.

October 6 at 3:57 p.m., a caller in the 300 block of W. Huntington said a male subject was sitting to the front of the location with drug paraphernalia near him and a spray can. Officers arrived and made contact with the subject who was in possession of drug paraphernalia. He was arrested, cited, and released in the field.

Shoplifting – Suspect Arrested
October 6 at 5:33 p.m., a witness in a store in the 1600 block of S. Mountain reported a subject was taking merchandise and left without paying. Officers arrived and located the subject. The subject was arrested, cited, and released in the field.

Petty Theft
October 6 at 8:04 p.m., an officer was dispatched to a gym in the 700 block of E. Huntington in regards to a theft. The victim placed her wallet and cell phone inside of a locker at the gym, but she was unsure if she locked the locker. When she returned to the locker, she discovered her wallet and cell phone were stolen. This investigation is continuing.

Driving Under the Influence – Suspect Arrested
October 6 at 8:04 p.m., an officer was patrolling the area of Peck and Longden when he saw an illegally parked vehicle. The officer approached the vehicle and discovered the engine was running and the driver was asleep behind the wheel. When the officer attempted to wake the driver, the driver abruptly drove forward, but then stopped. The driver displayed symptoms of intoxication. A DUI investigation revealed the driver was under the influence of alcohol. The driver was arrested and transported to the MPD jail to be held for a sobering period.

October 7 at 7:02 a.m., an injury traffic collision was reported in the area of Huntington and Alta Vista. One of the driver’s failed to yield while another vehicle was pulling out in front of them. One of the occupants had a complaint of pain.

October 7 at 8:24 a.m., a neighbor dispute was reported in the 700 block of Monterey. Both neighbors were contacted. This investigation is continuing.

October 7 at 8:58 a.m., an injury traffic collision was reported in the area of Huntington and Magnolia. This investigation is continuing.

October 7 at 9:38 a.m., a resident in the 1600 block of Venice reported a fire near his backyard. Officers and MFD were dispatched to the area. The resident used a hose to extinguish the fire. This investigation is continuing.

October 7, at 10:16 a.m., a reporting party in the 900 block of S. Fifth to report his stolen vehicle. This investigation is continuing.

October 7 at 12:56 p.m., a victim walked into the MPD lobby to report that she was shopping in a store in the 100 block of W. Foothill when she realized that someone had stolen her debit card. Her bank advised her that money had already been taken. This investigation is continuing.

October 7 at 1:28 p.m., a caller in the 100 block of S. Fifth reported his vehicle was stolen. This investigation is continuing.

Public Intoxication / Resisting Arrest – Suspect Arrested
October 7 at 7:42 p.m., several callers in the 1600 block of S. Myrtle reported seeing a male adult hitting a female adult. Officers arrived and located the male who immediately ran from officers, ignoring demands to stop. Once he was apprehended, he was found to be heavily intoxicated and unable to care for himself. An investigation revealed that the female left prior to officers’ arrival. The male subject was arrested and taken into custody.

October 8 at 7:44 a.m., a caller in the 200 block of E. Fig called to report cash was taken from two of their unlocked vehicles. This investigation is continuing. Grand Theft from Vehicle October 8 at 10:25 a.m., a resident in the 200 block of Los Angeles called to report someone had entered their unlocked work truck and stole hand tools. This investigation is continuing.

Mental Evaluation
October 8 at 12:22 p.m., a caller in the 600 block of E. Olive called to report suicidal thoughts. Officers responded and contacted the subject who was intoxicated and complained of shortness of breath. The subject stated he wanted to harm himself. It was determined he was a danger to himself. He was transported to a medical facility for an evaluation.

Vandalism / Drug Activity / Mental Evaluation
October 8 at 6:26 p.m., several witnesses reported a female adult breaking windows in the 800 block of E. Palm and businesses on Mountain. Officers located the subject who was positively identified by witnesses. The female adult was found to be a danger to herself. She was transported to a medical facility for a mental evaluation.

October 8 at 6:45 p.m., a customer of a store in the 500 block of W. Huntington walked to his parked car and discovered it was ransacked and items were taken. This investigation is continuing.

October 9 at 2:47 a.m., an officer was patrolling the 1500 block of S. Shamrock when he saw a motorist passed out in the driver's seat while stopped at a stop sign. October 9 at 9:42 a.m., a caller from the 400 block of Los Angeles reported someone had entered his unlocked vehicle and stole money from the center console. This investigation is continuing.

October 9 at 12:33 p.m., a caller reported a two vehicle collision at the intersection of Canyon and Foothill. A driver of one of the vehicles failed to stop and collided into another vehicle.

Critical Missing
October 9 at 2:05 p.m., parents of an autistic adult male reported him missing from the 300 block of W. Duarte. MPD conducted an extensive search and broadcasted his photo to local public transportation services. A few hours later he was located in the city of Azusa. He was reunited with his family.

Warrant Arrest – Suspect Arrested
October 9 at 4:32 p.m., a resident in the 500 block of Bradbury reported a disturbing. Officers arrived and located the subject. A computer check revealed he had a warrant. He was arrested and taken into custody.

Wanted Person – Suspect Arrested
October 9 at 6:28 p.m., security for a business in the 3300 block of S. Peck reported seeing a male adult inside their gated property. Officers arrived and located the male outside the gated property. A computer check revealed he was wanted for robbery and domestic violence. He was arrested and taken into custody.

Battery
October 9 at 9:41 p.m., a resident in the 200 block of W. Cypress reported her adult brother arrived at her house, got into an argument with her husband, and pepper sprayed her husband. The suspect fled prior to officers’ arrival. MFD Paramedics arrived and provided medical care. This investigation is continuing.

Traffic Collision
October 10 at 10:06 a.m., a caller reported a vehicle backed into a large truck crane. Officers responded and determined the driver was at fault and he was cited.

Shoplifting – Suspect Arrested
October 10 at 3:23 p.m., an employee from a business in the 700 block of E. Huntington reported three subjects entered the store and were shoving large amounts of merchandise into bags. MPD arrived, and two of the subjects fled the store with no merchandise. One female adult was detained and found to be in possession of stolen merchandise. The subject was arrested, cited, and released in the field.

Battery – Suspect Arrested
October 10 at 3:31 p.m., a caller in the 1000 block of E. Royal Oaks reported that a male adult had assaulted him while he was lounging at the pool. MPD officers arrived and detained the suspect. The suspect was placed under private person's arrest by the victim. The suspect was arrested, cited, and released in the field.

October 10 at 5:22 p.m., a caller reported someone had entered his unlocked vehicle and stolen several personal items. This investigation is continuing.

October 11 at 2:00 a.m., a caller reported a suspicious vehicle parked in the 1100 block of S. Fifth with three adults rummaging through it and lots of items spread out across the sidewalk. Officers arrived and discovered the vehicle belonged to the subjects and they were reorganizing it. Two subjects were found to in possession of drug paraphernalia. They were arrested and taken into custody.

October 11 at 10:52 a.m., a victim in the area of Madison and Foothill called to report a vehicle rear ended him and then threw an item at his car before driving away. This investigation is continuing.

October 11 at 10:57 a.m., a passerby in the area of Myrtle and Huntington reported two vehicle had crashed into one another in the intersection. One driver was found at fault and was cited.

Battery
October 11 at 3:33 p.m., a neighbor dispute was reported in the 400 block of Linwood. Officers arrived and determined that it was an altercation between co-tenants which led to mutual combat. This investigation is continuing.

Shoplifting – Suspect Arrested
October 11 at 9:08 a.m., security guard for a store in the 1600 block of S. Mountain reported that they had detaining a male adult for taking merchandise outside the store without paying. The suspect returned the stolen merchandise, refused to provide any personal identifying information, and then walked away from security. Officers located the suspect and accepted the store's private person arrest. The subject was arrested.

Dinner at The State, a new restaurant near the southeast corner of Myrtle and Lemon. Got the Happy Hour Spinach and Artichoke Grilled Cheese Sandwich for $10 and a craft beer for $8. Monrovia Company Gets Grant to Make Aviation Fuel From Plants

Monrovia-based Invizyne Technologies (140 W Chestnut Ave.) has received a $3.77 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy to support Invizyne's project to optimize and scale up isobutanol production, a potential sustainable aviation fuel. This follows a successful $2.08 million project converting cellulosic sugars to isobutanol. The sustainable aviation fuel market is projected to reach $27.4 billion by 2032.

CEO Mo Hayat said the company's method of making valuable chemicals from plant-based energy sources can reduce the pollution associated with traditional production methods. Details.

Monrovia High Achieves Silver Status on AP School Honor Roll

Monrovia High has achieved Silver status on the 2023 AP School Honor Roll, which honors schools that have fostered a college-going culture, facilitated opportunities for students to earn college credit, and enhanced overall college readiness. Silver is the third highest honor, preceded by Gold and Platinum and followed by Bronze. MHS made AP exams free for students, with nearly 60 percent of seniors taking at least one AP exam, and more than 30 percent scoring three or higher on at least one AP exam. Details.

Evan - A Great Hiking Buddy, and House-Trained ... We Think

This handsome guy is Evan - a 6-year-old Chinese Shar Pei mix at Pasadena Humane. Evan is an incredibly social dog who loves everyone he meets.

Evan recently attended a busy event with the Wiggle Waggle Wagon and he was a star! He met some other dogs and enjoyed that. He also got to play with toys, and bask in the adoration of everyone who came to visit. He happily showed off that he knows how to sit, lay down and even shake. Did we mention we think he’s house trained, too?

Evan loves going for walks- he would be an ideal hiking companion because he always seems to be on the move - sniffing, exploring, just enjoying whatever comes along.

The 122,000-square-foot office building at 222 E. Huntington Drive has just sold for $25 million. According to a report in What Now Los Angeles, it is the largest office building ever sold in Monrovia, and the highest price paid for an office building in Monrovia. Details.

A Moment in Monrovia History: Parlor of the Grand View Hotel

Grand View Hotel, later renamed the La Vista Grande, at the corner of Ivy and Lemon. Jan 1, 1887 John S. Keefer was the proprietor. By this time, his father, Colonel Samuel Keefer had committed suicide after combination of fatal diseases from which there was no indication that he could recover. The hotel burned down in a spectacular fire in 1916, which prompted the aquisition of the first adequate piece of Monrovia's Fire equipment, the Seagrave. The hotel was lighted by gas produced by its own gas plant. Photo found by Mrs. R.O. Bowlus in August 1950 in Ohio in a relative's home. Local Jewish Federation Rally Against Hamas Attack on Israel

This evening the Monrovia-based Jewish Federation of the Greater San Gabriel and Pomona Valleys, along with local synagogues, will hold a community solidarity service and rally in response to the recent attack on Israel by Hamas. It will be held today, Sunday, Oct. 8 at 8 p.m. at the Pasadena Jewish Temple & Center at 1434 N. Altadena Avenue, in Pasadena.

"The service will be a chance for the community to come together to show their support for Israel and condemn the brutal, onslaught of violence unleashed by Hamas on Israeli citizens. Local elected officials have been invited to speak, as well as our community Rabbis and other religious leaders."

School Board to Consider Disney Imagination Campus; Chinese Lion Dance, Filipino American History Month

~ An agreement with Disney for the Disney Imagination Campus at Disneyland and Disney California Adventure Theme Park. The program seeks to foster imagination and creativity among students. Details.
