Residents Protest School Superintendent at Evaluation Meeting

According to a Facebook video (here) by Marie Bordona-Bell, numerous Monrovia residents spoke out in the evaluation meeting of Monrovia School Superintendent Ryan Smith. None of the speakers was supportive of Smith although one said he should be told where he can improve. Several people complained of being disrespected, others of what they said were wasteful expenditures, some of disorganization, and others of low staff morale.

  1. I am begging the citizens of Monrovia to get involved in this. If Monrovia loses the draw of the district, we all lose a lot more. Read the board minutes from this last meeting or at least watch the video.

    1. There is sooo much money being spent at the district office level on all these new admin during a declining enrollment period. How do you justify that where 5 sups do the job that was once only 3 when there was a much LARGER amount of students. That money has to come out of somewhere which means the actual schools and teachers are losing.

  2. In all the times I've spoken to him he's been polite and respectful, We are facing uncertain economic times here in California, With every dollar very precious we can not afford to pay what it would cost to buyout his contract, Hire a firm to conduct a search and pay a hefty salary to a new Super.

  3. I guess the bond money can go to pay this guy out and the accompanying legal fees instead of fixing up the schools.
If he truly is that bad you have to blame the board for hiring him.

  4. Dr. Smith has done great work in Monrovia. A month ago, no one was saying anything to the contrary. This is a revenge smear campaign by the high school athletic director’s wife. See it for what it is. Her husband is still the AD by the way, reinstated by Smith.

    1. No was saying anything for fear of losing their job. Same reason no one says anything about the school board.

    2. Headline: “angry athletic director’s wife goes on revenge campaign after husband nearly forced to teach english full time again.” Just dumb. It’s obvious what all this is.

    3. You’d be wrong.

    4. That particular situation was over. You give the board no credit for being able to evaluate performance. It is quite possible that you know less about what went on than the board.

  5. Just look at the Paramount USD board meeting videos. He doesn’t answer the questions ask by the board members. He caused the PUSD millones of dollars for being out of compliance for his doings. He also brought his friend from PUSD.

    1. So nobody watched the videos before he was hired? We must end our fascination with admin with doctorate degrees. A doctorate does not even remotely someone is got to lead a district. Add to that :-/ any intelligent person who saw his resume could tell you he wouldn’t last
