Monrovia High Battle of Bands April 14

Monrovia High School’s Parent Teacher Student Association will host the 17th annual Battle of the Bands on April 14 from 6-10 p.m. The event will feature 14 teen bands from Southern California. Attendees will have the opportunity to win raffle prizes such as spa treatments from Park Place Medi Spa, a signed Eric Nash skateboard deck, and a Michael Anthony signed Fender bass. More here.

City Council to Consider: Opposing Tax- and Fee-Limitation Measure; Resolution Condemning Antisemitism

At its next meeting (agenda here) the Monrovia City Council will consider ...

~ A resolution opposing an upcoming statewide ballot measure, the "Taxpayer Protection and Government Accountability Act," filed by the California Business Roundtable. The initiative would expand restrictions on local governments' revenue-raising authority regarding taxes and fees. It would also introduce more restrictive standards and heightened legal challenges to fees and charges imposed by local agencies, affecting an estimated $2 billion per year of local government fee and charge revenue, according to the League of California Cities. More...

Superintendent Expects Mountain Park, Canyon Oaks, and Adult School Will be Accredited

Mountain Park School, Canyon Oaks High School, and Monrovia Community Adult School have completed the WASC (Western Association of Schools and Colleges) accreditation process. The process evaluates the schools' programs, learning outcomes, and performance to ensure they meet standards. Superintendent Ryan Smith said the visiting committee was impressed and he expects that all three schools will receive a full six-year accreditation term. Details

Monrovia Schools Institutes STAR Awards

Monrovia School District has instituted a new tradition called the STAR (spectacular, terrific, amazing, remarkable) Awards to recognize employees who have been nominated by their peers for excellence in their work. The awards will be held on April 11 at Monrovia High School in the Taylor Performing Arts Center, and one nominee from each category will be named as the person of the year. Details

During the last seven-day period, the Police Department handled 348 service events, resulting in 71 investigations. 

Grand Theft Auto
March 23 at 4:02 p.m., the victim reported her vehicle had been stolen overnight from the 200 block of Los Angeles. This investigation is continuing. 

Domestic Violence
March 23 at 5:33 p.m., officers responded to the 400 block of S. Myrtle regarding a domestic incident. A female subject was located and stated she was slapped by her boyfriend. There were no injuries and the male subject was not located. This investigation is continuing. 

Warrant Arrest – Suspect Arrested
March 24 at 10:15 a.m., a security guard from a business in the 500 block of W. Huntington called to report that a male subject was refusing to leave. Officers arrived and contacted the subject. The subject had six outstanding warrants for his arrest. He was arrested and taken into custody. 

Grand Theft
March 24 at 3:39 p.m., an employee in the 500 block of W. Huntington called to report that a male subject entered the business, smashed a jewelry display case and took merchandise. This investigation is continuing. 

Injury Traffic Collision
March 24 at 5:08 p.m., a motorist called to report a traffic collision in the intersection of Duarte and Mayflower. Officers and Paramedics arrived and checked on the well-being of the occupants. Three people were injured and one was transported to a local hospital for treatment. 

Weapon / Drug Offense – Suspect Arrested
March 25 at 4:11 a.m., a resident in the 300 block of W. Foothill reported a male subject was in her back yard. Officers responded and located the subject. He was in possession of a concealed dirk and dagger and a controlled substance. He was arrested and taken into custody. 

Battery
March 25 at 4:53 a.m., a security guard in the 1600 block of California called and report there was an assault victim at the location. Officers arrived and found an adult male with injuries to his face. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The victim stated two male subjects assaulted him while he was walking. This investigation is continuing. 

Injury Traffic Collision / Driving Under the Influence
March 25 at 6:42 p.m., a caller reported a motorist collided into a parked vehicle in the 100 block of W. Cypress. Officers arrived and found the driver to be intoxicated, but was also complaining of pain. MFD responded and transported the driver to a nearby hospital. This investigation is continuing. 

Driving Under the Influence – Suspect Arrested
March 25 at 8:48 p.m., an officer working at a DUI Checkpoint in the 1900 block of S. Myrtle found one of the motorists to be intoxicated after speaking with him. A DUI investigation revealed the driver was intoxicated. The driver was arrested and transported to the MPD jail to be held for a sobering period. 

Possession of Drug Paraphernalia – Suspect Arrested
March 25 at 11:16 p.m., while patrolling the 1600 block of S. Shamrock an officer saw a bicyclist commit a traffic violation. After he stopped the bicyclist he found the bicyclist was in possession of drug paraphernalia. He was arrested and taken into custody. 

Mental Evaluation
March 26 at 5:12 a.m., an officer patrolling the area of Myrtle and Benrud saw an adult male subject walking in traffic lanes. A vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed towards the subject so the officer positioned his vehicle between the man and the vehicle and activated his emergency lights. It was determined the man was a danger to himself, he was transported to a medical facility for a mental evaluation. 

Hit and Run Traffic Collision
March 26 at 10:25 p.m., a witness reported a hit and run traffic collision in the 800 block of Monterey where a vehicle hit multiple parked cars. The driver ran from the scene. This investigation is continuing. 

Petty Theft Arrest – Suspect Arrested
March 27 at 3:40 p.m., an officer was patrolling the 500 block of W. Huntington she was flagged down by a store security guard. The security guard reported three male suspects were taking items from the store and fled on foot. The officer was able to locate and detain one suspect. The suspect was arrested, cite, and released at the scene. 

Domestic Violence – Suspect Arrested
March 27 at 5:02 p.m., domestic violence was reported in the 1000 block of Royal Oaks. A couple was arguing when the wife picked up the TV remote control and threw it at her husband hitting him in the mouth. The husband refused an Emergency Protective Order and prosecution. The female was arrested, cited and released. 

Grand Theft
March 27 at 8:40 p.m., a victim reported that the catalytic converter from his vehicle was stolen in the 200 block of N. Canyon. This investigation is continuing. 

Mental Evaluation
March 28 at 6:50 a.m., an officer responded to 2000 block of S. Myrtle regarding a male subject who was confused. He was not reported as a missing person. The subject was transported to a local hospital for treatment. 

Grand Theft
March 28 at 10:53 a.m., an officer responded to the 500 block of East Lemon regarding a theft of a catalytic converter from a Toyota Prius. The victim parked his vehicle last Saturday at his residence and discovered the catalytic converter missing this morning. The victim will review his Ring camera to see if the suspects were caught on video. The loss value is $ 1,400.00. This investigation is continuing. 

Commercial Burglary
March 28 at 2:17 p.m., a victim in the 100 block of E. Lime reported a burglary in a commercial unit. An investigation revealed the suspects forced open the unit and took numerous items. This investigation is continuing. 

Battery Report – Suspect Arrested
March 28 at 3:47 p.m., a male subject walked into the MPD lobby reported he was robbed and battered by two male suspects in the 500 block of W. Huntington. MFD responded to the lobby and treated the male subject. An investigation revealed that the male subject was actually involved in a domestic fight with his partner. Officers responded and interviewed the partner and confirmed it was domestic violence and no robbery occurred. The male subject was arrested and taken into custody. 

Mental Evaluation
March 29 at 9:02 a.m., an officer responded to 200 block of N. Magnolia regarding a welfare check on a female subject. Upon arrival officers noticed food was delivered some time ago and appeared no one was home. Officers were able to locate the resident through a side door. MFD responded and transported her to a local hospital, where she was placed on a hold for being unable to care for herself. 

Shoplifting – Suspects Arrested
March 29 at 9:22 p.m., an employee from the 1600 block of S. Mountain reported a shoplifting in progress involving three suspects. Officers arrived as two of the suspects left the store and a foot pursuit ensued. Both suspects were located and detained. The third suspect fled as the two other suspects were being detained. The suspects were arrested, cited and released. 

Registration Open for 13th Annual Neighborhood Conference

Monrovia Area Partnership's 13th free Annual Neighborhood Conference will be held on April 29, with registration and a continental breakfast at 9 a.m. and workshops starting at 10:15 a.m. The conference will feature workshops, an information fair, health screenings, and food. The goal is to provide education, information, training, and resources for the community, and to encourage attendees to share what they have learned. The event features two workshop sessions, with topics including gardening, city resources, landlord-tenant rights, leadership, community projects, Monrovia history, active shooter training, and SB1383 (organic waste recycling). Workshops have limited capacity, so attendees should register as soon as possible. Register here.

Mischievous Loki Can Play Catch Even By Himself

You can tell by the twinkle in his eye that Loki is aptly named. This mischievous little rascal is a laugh a minute and always has us shaking our heads. Loki is very playful and entertains himself by playing catch, even when no one else is playing!

Loki has been in a foster home for a few weeks now and he’s made great progress! He really likes a routine and learning new things. He’s a master at some tricks already and eager to learn more. Loki loves toys, kids, and he’s even made some dog friends!

Loki is on the smaller side- he has lovingly been described as a “pocket husky”. He won’t take up too much room on the couch when he’s getting his always-appreciated snuggles!

Water Level Almost Up to Normal

As of March 24 the underground water table from which Monrovia draws is now just 14 inches below the 200-to-250 feet above sea level that the Upper San Gabriel Valley Municipal Water District considers a safe level. The water level has increased almost 20 feet since early January, from 178.9 feet then to 198.8 feet now. Source

Monrovia Is Finalist for All-American City Award

The National Civic League has named Monrovia as one of 20  finalists nationwide for the 2023 All American City Award. Monrovia won the award in 1995. Communities are recognized for improving the health and well-being of young people and, by extension, all residents. The awards will be held in Denver, CO from June 9-11. Details.

Easter Service Planned in Library Park

This year, Calvary Chapel Monrovia plans to resume its tradition of holding Easter service in Library Park, a tradition that was interrupted by COVID. The service will be held Easter Sunday, April 9 at 10 a.m., and childcare will be available.

Monrovia Police: Man Stabbed; Fights; Arrest on Murder Warrant; Employee Threatened With Knife; Stealing From Stores; Etc.

[Monrovia Police activities from the Police Department's Neighborhood Watch Report for March 16 – 22. - Brad Haugaard]

During the last seven-day period, the Police Department handled 303 service events, resulting in 59 investigations. 

Domestic Violence – Suspect Arrested
March 16 at 6:16 a.m., a resident in the 1200 block of California called to report that her husband physically assaulted. Officers responded and located the husband. He was arrested and taken into custody. 

Hit and Run Injury Traffic Collision – Suspect Arrested
March 16 at 2:15 p.m., Arcadia PD initiated a vehicle pursuit and canceled shortly after. Moments after they canceled the pursuit, the suspect vehicle crashed into five vehicles in the 500 block of W. Huntington. The driver fled on foot but was located shortly after. He was arrested and taken into custody. 

Driving Under the Influence – Suspect Arrested
March 17 at 2:00 a.m., an officer was patrolling the 200 block of W. Huntington when he saw a motorist commit a traffic violation. He stopped the vehicle and found the driver to be intoxicated. The driver was arrested and transported to the MPD jail to be held for a sobering period. 

Assault
March 17 at 3:27 p.m., a caller reported a male subject was stabbed near 1600 block of S. Myrtle. The victim was located and found to have several stab wounds. He was transported to a hospital for medical treatment. This investigation is continuing. 

Resist / Delay – Suspect Arrested
March 17 at 3:51 p.m., an employee from a business in the 200 block of E. Duarte called to report a male subject was on their property and refusing to leave. Officers arrived and located the subject who was refusing to leave. The officers attempted to place the subject under arrest for trespassing and the subject fought with officers. The officers managed to detain the suspect. Two officers sustained injuries, one of the officers was transported to a hospital for treatment. The subject was arrested and taken into custody.

Mental Evaluation
March 17 at 6:21 p.m., a resident in the 200 block of E. Evergreen reported his mother was attempting to harm herself. Officers and MFD responded. She was transported to a hospital for treatment and a mental evaluation. 

Warrant – Suspect Arrested
March 17 at 9:45 p.m., an officer was patrolling the 1900 block of S. Myrtle when he saw a motorist commit a driving violation. He stopped the car and discovered the driver not only was suspended from driving, but had a no bail probation warrant for his arrest. The driver was arrested and taken into custody. 

Domestic Violence
March 17 at 10:02 p.m., the victim arrived at the MPD lobby to report her boyfriend had hit her and pushed her earlier in the day. She had minor visible injuries, so MFD responded to provide medical aid. The female was not cooperative. This investigation is continuing. 

Disturbing the Peace
March 17 at 11:06 p.m., a female subject in the 100 block of W. Palm reported loud music in the area. Officers responded to keep the peace. 

Driving Under the Influence – Suspect Arrested
March 18 at 1:09 a.m., an officer was patrolling the 700 block of E. Huntington when he saw a motorist commit a driving violation. He stopped the vehicle and discovered the driver was heavily intoxicated. After field sobriety tests were conducted, he was arrested and transported to the MPD jail to be held for a sobering period. 

Fight in Progress / Battery / Public Intoxication – Suspect Arrested
March 18 at 2:16 a.m., a caller reported several people fighting in the area of Myrtle and Colorado. Officers arrived and the fight was over. They located some of the subjects involved. One of them had a cut to her head and MFD responded to provide care. The person who hit her was not located, however, one of the subjects was intoxicated and unable to care for his own safety. He was arrested and transported to the MPD jail to be held for a sobering period. 

Battery
March 18 at 7:06 p.m., the manager of a restaurant in the 900 block of W. Huntington reported two of her employees were involved in a fist fight in the kitchen. Officers and MFD Paramedics responded. One female had been hit multiple times by another female requiring her to be transported to a nearby hospital. The other female was gone prior to officers’ arrival. This investigation is continuing. 

Shoplifting – Suspect Arrested
March 19 at 8:47 p.m., an employee from a business in the 1600 block of S. Mountain reported a shoplifting. Officers arrived and detained the suspect in the parking lot. The suspect was also found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia. He was arrested, cited and released at the scene. 

Fight in Progress – Suspect Arrested
March 19 at 11:16 p.m., an employee from a restaurant in the 100 block of E. Olive reported that two subjects were fighting in front of the restaurant. Officers arrived and detained the subjects. One of the subjects was arrested for public intoxication and was found to be in possession of brass knuckles. He was arrested and transported to the MPD jail to be held for a sobering period. 

Weapons Offense / Warrant arrest – Suspect Arrested
March 20 at 11:35 a.m., a witness reported male adult subjects were arguing with a store employees in the 1600 block of S. Mountain when one of the suspects pulled out a knife and threatened one of the employees. Both suspects fled as officers arrived. One suspect was located and detained. He was arrested for a warrant and narcotics that were found on him. The other suspect got away. This investigation is ongoing. 

Robbery
March 20 at 2:40 p.m., a caller reported two male adults entered a store in the 500 block of W. Huntington and took items without paying for them. When he attempted to stop the suspects they pushed him down to the ground and got away. This investigation is ongoing. 

Traffic Collision
March 20 at 3:52 p.m., a driver was traveling in the area of Monterey and Huntington when they failed to stop. The driver collided into the rear of one vehicle, which then collided into the rear of another vehicle. Two people and a small child were transported to area hospitals with minor injuries. 

Grand Theft
March 20 at 7:31 p.m., loss prevention in the 500 block of W. Huntington reported a theft that occurred earlier in the day. The suspect stole merchandise and fled. This investigation is continuing. 

Petty Theft – Suspect Arrested
March 21 at 7:27 a.m., a male subject walked into a business in the 1600 block of S. Mountain and took merchandise without paying. Officers arrived and contacted the suspect outside the store. He was arrested and taken into custody. 

Grand Theft Auto
March 21 at 2:00 p.m., a caller in the 400 block of Monrovista reported a vehicle was parked on the street for several days. A computer check of the license plate revealed the vehicle was reported stolen. The vehicle was recovered and the owner was contacted. This investigation is continuing. 

Commercial Burglary
March 21 at 2:37 p.m., a business owner in the 1800 block of S. California reported his business was broken into overnight. The suspects took property. This investigation is ongoing. 

Shoplifting – Suspect Arrested
March 21 at 7:29 p.m., officers responded to a shoplifting in the 1600 block of S. Mountain. Three subjects were detained as they left the store. The three subjects were arrested, cited and released in the field. 

Grand Theft in Progress – Suspect Arrested
March 22 at 4:12 a.m., while on patrol in the area of 700 block of E. Central, an officer saw a subject loading a truck with tires. The officer conducted a traffic stop and contacted the driver. An investigation revealed the tires were stolen. He was arrested and taken into custody. 

Injury Traffic Collision
March 22 at 3:02 p.m., a vehicle collision was reported in the area of Peck and Live Oak. One person was transported to the hospital due to minor injuries. 

Residential Burglary
March 22 at 8:37 p.m., a caller reported that her home in the 200 block of Canyon Crest had been burglarized and jewelry was taken. This investigation is continuing. 

Warrant Arrest – Suspect Arrested
March 22 at 11:23 p.m., while on patrol an officer saw a vehicle commit a traffic violation in the area of Mountain and Huntington. The male passenger gave officers a false name, however, this subject is known from multiple prior arrests. A computer check revealed the subject had a million dollar attempt murder warrant. CHP responded to the traffic stop and took custody of the subject. 

Ike’s Love & Sandwiches Now Open

Ike’s Love & Sandwiches, a San Francisco sandwich brand, has opened in Monrovia at 606 W. Huntington Dr., next to Chipotle. A grand opening is scheduled for April 13. The first 50 customers will receive a free sandwich, a t-shirt, and a chance to win free sandwiches for a year. Ike Shehadeh, the founder of Ike’s, will be on-site for the event. The Monrovia location will offer meat, vegetarian, vegan, and halal sandwich options.

Students Creating 3D Walkthrough of Historic Anderson House

Tafoya demonstrating the Matterport camera to the students. 

Students from Monrovia High School game  design and engineering classes are working today with Dionisio Tafoya of Dionysus Creative, LLC, to create a 3D digital walk-through of the historic Anderson House.

There is also post-filming work that needs to be done before the walk-through will be available online. Tafoya estimated that could take a few weeks.

Antique Vehicle Show April 1

True Pride Car Club will hold its annual fundraiser on April 1 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at 1333 S. Mayflower, the Webasto Charging Systems site. Live band, raffles, food vendors, antique vehicles, trophies. Webasto will donate to a local charity.

School District Musicians Earn High Ratings

The Monrovia High School Chamber Strings and the Clifton Orchestra each earned ratings of Superior at the Southern California School Band & Orchestra Association Festival, according to a post on the MHS Wildcats Band and Colorguard Facebook page.

Mountains or Beach, Jett is Up for Adventure ... And a Snuggle

Who can say no to this smile? Charming Jett is about as fun as they come. He is always up for an adventure, whether it be a hike in the mountains, a trip to the beach or a stroll around town. Afterwards, he never turns down a snuggle!

Jett has been spending time with a foster family and they absolutely rave about him. They’ve shared that he gets along well with their dog and likes everyone he meets. Jett is described as “easy-going and affectionate.” At only 50 pounds, Jett is big enough to hang with the big dogs and small enough to curl up next to you on the loveseat!

Groundwater Climbing Towards Safe Level

The water table from which Monrovia draws has risen to 194.61 feet above sea level as of March 17, less than six feet below the 200-to-250 feet that the Upper San Gabriel Valley Municipal Water District considers a safe level. Hillsides Slipping in North Monrovia

On Cloverleaf. 

In Canyon Park. 

City manager, Dylan Feick reports there has been new damage to Canyon Park, a mudslide on Cloverleaf, and the threat of mudslides in upper Monrovia. He writes:

“I am growing more concerned about the saturation of our hillsides and their propensity for flooding. Earlier today, we experienced a significant mudslide on Cloverleaf Drive just before Hidden Valley. The debris blocked the roadway and gas service had to be shut off for the debris removal. We will be covering the exposed hillside and placing k-rails in case more hillside comes down, which is quite likely. City crews are reporting more flood damage within Canyon Park and along Lower Clamshell Trail, as well as falling trees throughout the community.”

A Moment in Monrovia History: Monrovia's Gold Hill in Film History

February 11, 1916. This is Henry Kabierskie, director of the Monrovia Feature Film Company. John H. Bartle and H. J. Cornes sold 154 acres on Gold Hill to the company for $34,000. "Henry Kabierski, an experienced director attached to the company, had pronounced the location as one of the best in Southern California for the purpose of filming pictures, the air, light, and altitude being ideal for the purpose." A set representing San Francisco was built and burned in a scene. Locals acted in the productions and their homesand other buildings in Monrovia were used as sets. "A large platform was first built on Gold Hill to be used for inside scenes and a number of the old mining camps were reconstructed, such as Hangtown, Sutter's Mill and Sutter's Fort." See John L. Event Set to Raise Funds to Stop Bradbury Street Widening

A fundraising event will take place on March 25, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., at 1034 Wildrose Ave. to raise awareness and funds to save oaks on the border of Monrovia and Bradbury, which are threatened by a road-widening project. The event is organized by Grow Monrovia, along with neighbors from Bradbury and Monrovia and will feature environmental speakers, live music, food and drinks, and a silent auction with donated items. All proceeds will go to stop the project. The event is free and food tickets can be purchased at the door. During the last seven-day period, the Police Department handled 304 service events, resulting in 68 investigations. 

Missing Person
March 9 at 12:26 p.m., a caller in the 100 block of E. Palm reported a juvenile ran away. Officers responded and added the juvenile to the missing person system. This investigation is continuing. 

Injury Traffic Collision
March 9 at 4:31 p.m., a witness reported a traffic collision in the 1000 block of Royal Oaks. Officers and Paramedics arrived and checked the well-being of the occupants. Two occupants complained of pain. The driver at fault was issued a citation. 

Hit and Run Traffic Collision
March 9 at 8:04 p.m., a witness reported a hit and run traffic collision in the 900 block of Monterey where a vehicle collided with two parked vehicles. The driver fled the scene, but was followed by a witness, who was able to obtain the vehicles license plate and relay it to MPD dispatch. The vehicle returned to a neighboring city. The neighboring jurisdiction checked the location but was unable to locate the vehicle. This investigation is continuing. 

Drug Activity – Suspect Arrested
March 9 at 10:08 p.m., a caller in the 100 block of E. Olive a male subject using drugs in his vehicle. Officers located the vehicle and observed a large bag of drug paraphernalia on the center console. The male subject was contacted and admitted to owning and using the drugs. The subject was arrested, issued a citation in the field, and released at the scene. 

Weapons Offense
March 9 at 10:08 p.m., while officers were checking for a possible suspect vehicle from a previous call in the 100 block of E. Olive, they observed a loaded handgun in a vehicle parked in the rear parking lot. The owner of the vehicle was located and consented to a search of his vehicle. The firearm returned registered to him. The owner was issued multiple CCW's from other states but did not currently have one from California. He was arrested, issued a citation, and released at the scene. 

Burglary Vehicle
March 9 at 10:30 p.m., a victim in the 700 block of E. Huntington reported his vehicle was broken into and his dog was taken. This investigation is continuing. 

Public Intoxication – Suspect Arrested
March 10 at 4:01 a.m., a caller reported a subject in the rear alley of the 400 block of W. Lemon. The subject was banging on windows and making noise. Officers arrived and located the subject. The subject displayed signs and symptoms of being under the influence. He was placed under arrest. When officers tried to put him into the patrol vehicle, the subject resisted and would not cooperate. The jail van was called to the scene. The subject was transported to the MPD jail to be held for a sobering period. 

Warrant Arrest – Suspect Arrested
March 10 at 10:51 p.m., an officer was patrolling the area of Evergreen and Myrtle when he saw a motorist commit a traffic violation. He conducted a traffic stop and learned the driver had outstanding arrest warrants. He was arrested and taken into custody. 

Residential Burglary
March 10 at 4:09 p.m. a resident in the 400 block of S. Sunset called to report his home was broken into sometime during the day. This investigation is continuing. 

Driving Under the Influence – Suspect Arrested
March 10 at 9:49 a.m., officers were dispatched to the area of Foothill and Alta Vista regarding a possible DUI driver. Officers located the vehicle parked with the driver still inside. They spoke with the driver and observed signs of intoxication. After a field sobriety test was conducted, the driver was arrested and transported to MPD jail to be held for a sobering period. 

Domestic Violence – Suspect Arrested
March 11 at 2:16 a.m., a caller in the 800 block of W. Colorado reported a physical altercation between a male subject and female subject. When officers arrived the parties were separated. An investigation revealed a child was currently staying at the location with the male subject. The female arrived and attempted to remove the child and assaulted the male subject. The male sustained injuries and bite marks to his arms. The female was arrested and taken into custody. 

Driving Under the Influence – Suspect Arrested
March 11 at 3:17 a.m., an officer was patrolling the area of Peck and Live Oak when he saw a motorist commit a traffic violation. He stopped the driver and saw signs of intoxication. After field sobriety tests were conducted, the driver was arrested and transported to the MPD jail to be held for a sobering period. 

Attempted Grand Theft Auto
March 12 at 10:49 p.m., a caller reported that someone tried to steal her vehicle while she was at work in the 400 block of W. Huntington. Her door handle was broken and the ignition was punched. This investigation is continuing.

March 13 at 8:45 a.m., a caller reported her vehicle was stolen sometime during the night. The vehicle was last seen in the 700 block of W. Huntington. This investigation is continuing. 

Grand Theft
March 13 at 8:47 a.m., an employee from a business in the 200 block of W. Huntington called to report a customer rented equipment and failed to return it. This investigation is continuing. 

Drug Arrest – Suspect Arrested
March 13 at 1:26 p.m., an officer was patrolling the area of Olive and Myrtle when he saw a motorist commit a traffic violation. A traffic stop was conducted and the driver was contacted. The driver was found to be in possession of drug paraphernalia. He was arrested, issued a citation and released at the scene. 

Mental Evaluation / Missing Person
March 13 at 5:05 p.m., a mother called from the 400 block of N. Primrose to report that her adult son was suicidal. Officers responded and the son was already gone. He was entered as a missing person. Shortly before 6:30 pm, the son returned. Officers responded again and based on his statements, he was transported to a medical facility for a mental evaluation. He was removed from the missing person system. 

Grand Theft
March 13 at 9:20 p.m., a business from the 1600 block of S. Mountain called regarding a shoplifter. The suspect stole power tools and was fleeing. Officers arrived and searched the area but the suspect was not located. This investigation is continuing. 

Warrant Arrest – Suspect Arrested
March 14 at 4:18 a.m., an officer was patrolling the area of California and Cherry when he contacted a subject. The subject was in possession of drug paraphernalia. A computer check revealed he was a wanted person. He was arrested and taken into custody. 

Shoplifting – Suspect Arrested
March 14 at 7:18 p.m., an employee from the 500 block of W. Huntington called regarding a shoplifter. The suspect took large amounts of clothing and shoes and fled. Officers responded to the area. Shortly thereafter, a caller from the 1200 block of S. Alta Vista reported a suspicious person. He was located and identified as the theft suspect. The stolen property was recovered. He was arrested, cited, and released at the scene. 

Vehicle Burglary / Vehicle Pursuit – Suspect Arrested
March 15 at 2:49 a.m., an officer observed a vehicle burglary in progress in the 100 block of W. Olive. The suspect vehicle sped off and the officer followed. The officer pursued the vehicle onto the 605 freeway into Baldwin Park. When the vehicle came to a stop the driver was arrested and taken into custody. 

Petty Theft
March 15 at 2:32 p.m., a caller reported someone had stolen her wallet in the 500 block of W. Huntington. This investigation is continuing. 

Criminal Threats
March 15 at 2:59 p.m., a caller from the 600 block of E. Colorado reported someone was sending her death threats on her cell phone and she was in fear of her life. This investigation is continuing. 

Domestic Battery
March 15 at 9:36 p.m., a victim in the 200 block of E. Palm reported that her boyfriend assaulted her. Officers arrived but the boyfriend had already left. The boyfriend had damaged property in the home and pulled the victim's hair. This investigation is continuing.

Tours of Anderson House Begin This Sunday

Beginning this Sunday, March 19, from 1 to 4 p.m., The Monrovia Historical Society is offering free tours of the 1886 George H. Anderson House Museum. These will be held on the third Sunday of each month from 1 to 4 p.m. The house has undergone extensive repairs and is now furnished with authentic period pieces that show what it was like to live in the early days of Monrovia. Services to be Held for Former Monrovia Councilman John Nobrega

Services for former Monrovia City Councilman John Nobrega will be held on Saturday, March 18, 2023, at Cabot & Sons, 27 Chestnut Street, Pasadena at 11 a.m. John Nobrega Jr. passed away peacefully on February 9 at the age of 90. He moved to Monrovia in 1965, where he became an active member of Immaculate Conception Church and served on the city's Parks and Recreation Commission from 1972 to 1982. He later ran for city council and served as a council member from 1982 to 1994, during which time he worked to establish a fire station in the southern part of the city. Nobrega also worked in food sales for companies such as Armour Star and Nestle and operated John's Discount Golf shop in Arcadia. Details

Monrovia PD: Don’t Drive Drunk on Saint Patrick’s Day

 

The Monrovia Police Department warns…

This St. Patrick's Day don't push your luck by driving drunk. The Monrovia Police Department will be on alert for suspected impaired drivers and reminds the community to celebrate responsibly by not driving under the influence.

Additional officers will be on patrol March 17 from 8:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. looking for drivers suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.

"Leave your keys at home and plan ahead before you celebrate St. Patrick's Day." Lt. Oberon said. "Designate a sober driver, schedule a ride share or make other plans to get home safely if you plan to consume alcohol."

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), St. Patrick's Day is one of the deadliest times on our nation's roads. In 2020, more than 11,000 people in the U.S. died in drunk-driving crashes.

Monrovia PD wants to warn the community that alcohol is not the only substance that can cause impairment. Marijuana, prescription medications, or over-the-counter drugs may also impair. Do your research and understand how certain drugs may affect your driving ability.

Funding for this program is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

March 2 at 3:44 a.m., officers responded to a business in the 900 block of W. Duarte regarding an alarm activation. Officers arrived and saw one of the front windows was broken. This investigation is continuing.

March 2 at 6:22 p.m., a hit and run traffic collision was reported in the area of California and Colorado. A juvenile was hit by a vehicle and the vehicle fled the scene. Officers and MFD responded to the scene. MFD treated the juvenile. He was transported to a local hospital for further treatment. This investigation is continuing.

Burglary
March 3 at 10:32 a.m., the owner of a business in the 500 block of S. Myrtle Ave. reported arriving to find the rear door open. A checkbook was taken. This investigation is continuing.

Burglary
March 3 at 4:32 p.m., a victim called from a business in the 500 block of S. Myrtle reporting that two male suspects entered a business and stole the victim’s purse. The suspects attempted to use the victim's credit card at a business minutes later. The investigation is continuing.

Robbery
March 3 at 5:05 p.m., an employee called from a business in the 1600 block of S. Myrtle to report a robbery. A male suspect jumped on the counter and pointed a handgun at the clerk. This investigation is continuing.

Petty Theft
March 3 at 6:26 p.m., an employee from a business in the 500 block of S. Myrtle reported several juveniles entered her store and stole property. This investigation is continuing.

Threatening
March 3 at 7:07 p.m., a caller in a business in the 500 block of W. Huntington reported a customer became upset and began to threaten harm to the employees. The suspect left before officers arrived. This investigation is continuing.

March 4 at 12:01 a.m., while on patrol an officer saw a driver commit a traffic violation in the area of Mayflower and Evergreen. The officer conducted a traffic stop and made contact with the driver. A DUI investigation revealed the driver was driving under the influence. The driver was arrested and was transported to MPD jail to be held for a sobering period.

Driving Under the Influence – Suspect Arrested
March 4 at 12:14 a.m., an officer saw a driver commit a violation in the area of Magnolia and Olive and conducted a traffic stop. After a DUI investigation the driver was arrested and transported to the MPD jail to be held for a sobering period.

Driving Under the Influence / Injury Traffic Collision
March 4 at 12:18 a.m., an intoxicated driver slammed into the rear of a parked vehicle in the 3300 block of S. Peck, causing the parked vehicle to collide into a food cart with workers and patrons. Multiple injuries were reported and MFD responded along with Arcadia PD and Irwindale PD. Four people were injured and transported to area hospitals. The DUI driver was also transported to the hospital. This investigation is continuing.

March 4 at 2:04 a.m., as officers were dealing with a collision scene, a vehicle drove by the 3300 block of S. Peck with two flat tires and the rims exposed. Officers quickly got in their vehicles and caught up with the driver. The vehicle slowed down and then collided into the rear of an occupied parked vehicle. The driver was contacted and showed signs and symptoms of being under the influence. A DUI investigation ensued and the driver was arrested and transported to the MPD jail to be held for a sobering period.

March 4 at 2:59 a.m., while on patrol an officer saw a driver commit a violation near the intersection of Myrtle and Live Oak and conducted a traffic stop. The driver displayed signs of being under the influence. A DUI investigation revealed the driver was under the influence. The driver was arrested and transported to the MPD jail to be held for a sobering period.

Driving Under the Influence / Traffic Collision
March 4 at 4:08 a.m., a vehicle collided into a power pole in the area of California and Hurstview, causing it to fall on top of another vehicle. MFD responded and the driver was removed from the vehicle. The driver was transported to a local hospital for treatment. Intoxication was suspected. This investigation is continuing.

Battery
March 4 at 3:07 p.m., a caller reported a male subject loitering near a business in the 400 block of S. Myrtle. Employees asked him to leave and he became agitated. Another customer took it upon himself to physically escort the subject out of the location. The subject requested prosecution. This investigation is continuing.

Drug Offense – Suspect Arrested
March 4 at 3:09 p.m., officers were dispatched to a business in the 700 block of E. Huntington regarding a suspicious vehicle with two occupants. The reporting party stated the driver appeared to be under the influence. Officers arrived and contacted the occupants. During a search of the vehicle officers located numerous hypodermic syringes. One officer suffered a puncture wound to his finger from a needle that had been used to inject drugs. The two suspects were arrested, issued citations, and released. The officer was treated for his injury at a local hospital.

Grand Theft
March 4 at 6:19 p.m., an officer responded to a residence in the 100 block of Grand regarding a theft of mail packages. This investigation is continuing.

Driving Under the Influence / Traffic Collision – Suspect Arrested
March 4 at 10:16 p.m., a traffic collision was reported in the 300 block of W. Huntington. Officers arrived and detained a female that drove her vehicle into another parked vehicle. The driver displayed symptoms of being under the influence of alcohol. A DUI investigation revealed she was under the influence. She was arrested and transported to the MPD jail to be held for a sobering period.

Driving Under the Influence – Suspect Arrested
March 5 at 12:09 a.m., an officer stopped a vehicle in the 600 block of W. Huntington for a traffic violation. The driver and passenger appeared to be under the influence of alcohol. A DUI investigation revealed the driver was under the influence. The passenger was intoxicated and transported to a local hospital for treatment. The driver was arrested and transported to the MPD jail to be held for a sobering period.

Attempted Burglary
March 5 at 3:42 a.m., officers responded to a burglary alarm at a business in the 1600 block of S. Mountain. When officers arrived they saw the front window was broken. This investigation is continuing.

Mental Evaluation
March 5 at 12:48 p.m., a caller reported a man down in the 200 block of W. Foothill. A male subject was having difficulty walking and had been wandering in traffic. It was determined he was gravely disabled and not able to care for himself. He was transported to a local hospital for a mental evaluation.

Mental Evaluation
March 5 at 3:39 p.m., a resident in the 200 block of Heather Heights reported a juvenile female attacked her father with a knife. It was determined she hit him in the head with a broken knife handle. It was determined she was a danger to herself and others and was transported to a medical facility for a mental evaluation. The father was treated for his injury but refused transport.

Death Report
March 6 at 8:18 a.m., officers were dispatched to a residence in the 300 block of Stedman on a report of a subject not responding and possibly not breathing. Officers arrived along with MFD and he was pronounced deceased.

Warrant Arrest – Suspect Arrested
March 6 at 12:53 p.m., while patrolling the area of 1600 block of S. Myrtle, an officer saw a subject who he recognized from previous contacts. The subject had a no bail warrant for his arrest. He was arrested and taken into custody.

Fraud
March 6 at 2:03 p.m., a victim in the 200 block of Fowler reported someone had opened a phone account using his personal information. This investigation is continuing.

Mental Evaluation
March 6 at 2:49 p.m., a family disturbance was reported in the 100 block of N. Magnolia. When they arrived, they contacted the involved parties. After speaking with them, it was determined that one of the members was a danger to himself and others. He was placed on a mental evaluation hold and transported to a local mental hospital for further treatment.

March 6 at 10:14 p.m., officers responded to a residence in the 800 block of S. Myrtle regarding a domestic dispute. As officers were arriving, the male subject attempted to leave in his vehicle, but was stopped by officers. The driver displayed symptoms of being under the influence of alcohol. He was arrested and transported to the MPD jail to be held for a sobering period.

Commercial Burglary
March 7 at 3:13 a.m., a burglary alarm was activated in the 600 block W. Huntington. Officers arrived and saw the front window was smashed. An investigation revealed property was taken. This investigation is continuing.

Attempt Grand Theft
March 7 at 5:21 a.m., officers responded to the 100 block of El Nido regarding a suspicious vehicle. Officers arrived and attempted to stop the vehicle, however, it sped off at an unsafe speed and a pursuit ensued. Officers followed the vehicle and the pursuit was called off shortly after. It is believed that the occupants of the vehicle were involved in two attempt catalytic converter thefts. This investigation is continuing.

Death Report
March 7 at 6:12 a.m., officers were dispatched to a residence in the 1300 block of S. Alta Vista on a report of a male subject who was unresponsive and not breathing. They arrived, along with paramedics, and began CPR. The subject was later pronounced at the scene.

Grand Theft
March 7 at 7:09 a.m., a victim in the 100 block of Highland called to report someone had stolen the catalytic converter from his vehicle sometime during the night. This investigation is continuing.

Injury Traffic Collision
March 7 at 1:26 p.m., a traffic collision occurred in the intersection of California and Evergreen. A vehicle traveling failed to stop for the red light and broadsided a vehicle. The vehicle rolled over but landed back right side up. That driver was transported to the hospital for complaint of pain and the party at fault had a visible injury to his head.

Grand Theft
March 7 at 7:59 p.m., a caller in the 200 block of N. Mayflower reported that the catalytic converter was stolen from his vehicle, sometime during the night. This investigation is continuing.

Mental Evaluation
March 7 at 10: 39 p.m., a female subject arrived at her children's home in the 400 block of S. Canyon and was acting strange. Officers arrived and deemed the mother was a danger to herself and others. She was taken for a mental evaluation.

Court Order Violation – Suspect Arrested
March 8 at 9:58 a.m., a victim in the 1100 block of S. Fifth called stating she has a restraining order against her husband and he is at the location. Officers arrived and located the subject inside. He was arrested and taken into custody.

Battery / Child Endangerment
March 8 at 6:42 p.m., officers responded to a fight in progress in the area of Cherry and Magnolia. After separating the involved parties, it was discovered that two males, a father and a step-father of two young children, mutually fought each other. During the fight, a girlfriend was punched. One subject was arrested, issued a citation, and released at the scene. Since the children, ages 10 and 8, were present and were pushed around while trying to separate the dad's, child endangerment charges will be submitted also. DCFS was contacted.
