Portantino Bill Would Require Fertility Services

A bill introduced into the State Senate by Anthony Portantino (who represents Monrovia) would require health plans and insurance companies that cover medical expenses to cover "medically necessary expenses for standard fertility preservation." https://goo.gl/SXNAHf

  1. What precisely is meant by "medically necessary expenses"?

    1. The medical expenses incurred in the diagnosis and treatment of infertility. For example, when a patient is about to undergo chemotherapy or radiation treatments.

  2. This kind of heroism simply increases the cost of health insurance for everyone, since every plan is required to provide services whether the policyholder wants them or not or might ever use them.

ACA has many similar features and this is one reason plans bought on the exchanges cost so much and have high deductibles.

Portantino is working to make health insurance less flexible and more expensive. He evidently learned nothing from the national failure of ACA. This is not a surprise. It amazed me when he was elected, after the buffoonery of his prior "service" in the Legislature, but I guess memories are short. Or people like picking their neighbors' pockets.

    1. Agreed. Don't know why he was elected. Between this and naming a freeway not sure what this guy is doing, or how he is serving his constituents.
