You probably knew that old Route 66 passed through Monrovia, but you may not have known that at first it took a somewhat circuitous route. As the latest issue of the Monrovia Historical Preservation Group explains:
"As travelers from the east arrived in town along Huntington Drive, the route initially turned right on Shamrock Avenue to Foothill Boulevard, then turned left and continued to Santa Anita Avenue, again turning left to rejoin Huntington. That path was altered in 1933 to remain on Huntington as it passed through Monrovia."
