~ You can help Mayflower Elementary School win $20,000 for new playground equipment by voting on Facebook.com/letsplay. The contest is sponsored by Dr Pepper Snapple and national non-profit KaBOOM! Winners will be announced on June 29. The school writes that new playground for Mayflower would benefit not only the students, but also many after school programs, such as The Boys and Girls Club, Monrovia Youth League Baseball and AYSO. "We hope to provide safe playground equipment for all, including students and community members with special needs." You can vote once a day.

~ The Pasadena Humane Society & SPCA, which serves Monrovia, will hold its Second Annual Free Adoption Day on June 30. The shelter, located at 361 S. Raymond Ave in Pasadena, will be open for adoptions from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Adoption fees will be waived for all available animals-including dogs, cats, rabbits, birds, pocket pets and reptiles - for the entire day.
