Monrovia Council: Fixing Huntington; Hillside Access; Goodbye Conference of Mayors? Beauty Salons in Old Town; Historic-Older Americans Month

At the May 19 Monrovia City Council meeting (agenda: http://goo.gl/CHY29b ), the council will, among other things ...

- In hopes that two lapsed grants (one for $1.8 million and the other for $227,000) will be renewed, the council will consider spending the expected money on improving Huntington Drive between Magnolia and Shamrock ( http://goo.gl/36XUCP ). Comment: Hmmm. I knew the city let a lot of grant money lapse, but I had no idea it was THAT much.

- Hear a report by City Manager Oliver Chi on Hillside Wilderness Preserve access issues.

- Consider withdrawing from the US Conference of Mayors. If I'm understanding the agenda correctly, Mayor Adams will propose this.

- Consider a measure to allow beauty salons, nail salons, barbershops, and pet grooming businesses in the historic downtown area. http://goo.gl/YCiTpL

- Name the month of May as both Historic Preservation Month and Older Americans Month.

  1. Why are we picking someone else's pockets for grant money to keep spending up?

Oh, right, it's free! Free stuff! Politicians love to hand it out and to spend it, I guess.

Maybe Monrovia ought to live inside its means, and maybe Huntington isn't the highest priority for the city?
