Boys & Girls Club Youth To Be Honored

On Friday, March 20, the 2015 Boys & Girls Club of the Foothills "Youth of the Year" will be recognized at the annual awards celebration. Presented by DoubleTree by Hilton - Monrovia and chaired by Donna Baker, the ceremony will take place from 5:30-7:00 pm, in the ballroom of the DoubleTree at 924 W. Huntington Drive. The event is free and open to the public, though reservations are required.

The event honors club members who, with the help of their club, have met obstacles head-on and, despite the odds, have given back to their club and community. Youth of the Year winners demonstrate service to Club, community and family; academic success; strong moral character; life goals; and poise and public speaking ability. Local Youth of the Year winners receive a $500 scholarship and then go on to compete at the county, state and national levels.

  1. It's a shame the head of the Boys & Girls Club has decided he is more interested in being a partisan political player than a community leader who appreciates the support and efforts of everyone, regardless of politics. I have a hard time contributing to the salary of a guy who I know is going to use it to support some very vociferously political people. He should take a page from the other leaders of the community who manage to maintain friendships on all sides.

    1. Dear Anonymous - I'm surprised by this comment as I have not taken any political stands or endorsed any candidates in this election. As a citizen of Monrovia, I've been invited to "meet and greets" with many candidates by friends and neighbors and I've attended those so I could be an informed voter. If this is what you're referring to, then I guess I've possibly been in the company of a vociferous person, but I'm not sure who it is you're referring. If you would like to reach out to me directly so I can either clear up a misunderstanding or simply know what you're speaking of specifically, I would appreciate it. My email address is: jwilson@foothillsbgc.org.

On another note, I'm not the reason anyone should give to the Boys & Girls Club. I personally give for the kids. I'm deeply passionate about our young people and helping ensure they have what they need to overcome the obstacles they face in life so they can succeed in school, graduate and go to college; so they can developing into people of strong character and a strong sense of community and service; so they can learn to make wise choice and live long healthy lives. This is why someone should give to Boys & Girls Club of the Foothills. We are making a difference in young people's lives and in turn making this community stronger.
