DRC is reviewing an outdoor seating permit for a new business named Le Gourmand. I haven’t seen a menu, but from what I understand, it will be an upscale cafĂ© and bakery that will also have a small retail component selling prepackaged foods.
The applicant, Mark Houston, is a Monrovia-based designer and contractor who is designing the interior.

Hopefully this will happen. It seems like our the city makes it hard for small business to open around here. Eureka Coffee has thrown in the towel. It seems like Salad Bistro is taken forever to open. The restaurant at the Aztec hotel did not happen. But yet we have massage parlors and e cigarette places all over town. #Sad
ReplyDeleteI agree... what is the problem? I'm really hoping Salad Bistro makes it in... that's how I found this tread/write up, looking for information on it. Besides that, it would be nice if we could get the Old Town area built up like some of the others :(

ReplyDeleteluckee215. I don't believe that the city makes it difficult. Why do you think the city had anything to do with the failure of these businesses? Opening a restaurant is a major investment and super difficult. Opening an eCig shop takes about 30 minutes of planning.
ReplyDeleteMy family opened a restaurant during the late 50s/early 60s. It was a long time getting Health Dept. approval, building dept. approval, plus a lot of red tape. It seemed to take from 9 to12 months to open.
