  1. I read in the Monrovia Weekly that the current owners of the HISTORIC hotel got push back from the planning commision, based upon the history from the PREVIOUS owners - I am glad to read that the PC came to it's senses. This HISTORIC site needed owners who gave a damn, unlike the previous owners. I was glad to read the resident Larry Williams acknowledged that the previous owners provided no management - I can say from personal experience that, that is a true statement. One experence: when the hotel was granted HISTORIC status, and Huel Howser of PBS came to interview them, there was no evidence of the media and I was shocked, as it was the perfect opportunity to gain public approval, to gain some status in the neighborhood; but there was no media, nothing. But it is evidence that the owners at that time, didn't give a damn. Perhpas they thought that getting historic status was a path to $$$. But, it (the hotel) was (apparently)a platform for the "wannabe" rock band of the owner / wife of. I hope that the current owners can open up the patio to (quiet) diners as it is quite a lovely patio / garden. (needs some work, but it has golden opportunities) And to the residents behind / next to the Aztec - when you bought your house, you knew up front that there was a bar / restaurant on the corner. You bought with your eyes wide open; do not drive out a HISTORIC business, because of your "sensibilities" - I believe that with a little care and concern, which seems to be the case with the current owners, the little town of Monrovia can have in its midst a real HISTORIC building. After all, the Elephant Bar was the stop over for Hollywood's golden elite. It's a real, damn shame that due to the previous owners, lack of care and concern that the bar has lost it's moniker and therefore status. I do hope that the curent owners can bring back some of the luster that was.
