Portantino Opposes 710 Freeway Completion

Assemblyman Anthony Portantino, who represents part of Monrovia,
writes on Facebook that he opposes the completion of the freeway
through South Pasadena. He writes:

"The 710 tunnel and the 710 surface routes in total are bad ideas, a
waste of prescious resources and bad for all our neighborhoods. This
is not about pitting one neighborhood against another. It is about
solving our transportation problems with 21st century solutions not an
outdated plan that will devastate Los Angeles, Pasadena and the San
Gabriel Valley?"

Opinion: I couldn't disagree more. How much gas would we save and how
much congestion and pollution would we prevent by having shorter
freeway distances to travel? And I'll believe cars and freeways are
outmoded when Mr. Portantino stops using them.

  2. I used to live in SoPas and I always wondered how such a small community had such power that they impacted in a very negative way everyone around them. Yes, SoPas is a lovely community, and it's small town feel was a breath of fresh air; but this is the 21st century; the communities around them have grown and to continue to allow such a very small community block passage of something that would better the entire community is akin to a spoiled child throwing a tantrum and shutting down an entire restuarant the size of The Monrovian. Not a good thing.
