Portantino Honored for AIDS Work

Assemblymember Anthony Portantino, who represents part of Monrovia, will be honored by the City of Pasadena Public Health Department with its Andrew Escajeda Humanitarian Award for his work to create greater community awareness about prevention, treatment and social services for HIV/AIDS.  For several years, Portantino has partnered with the Pasadena Public Health Department to offer free HIV testing and has also hosted the annual HIV/AIDS Action Summit at City of Hope Hospital in Duarte.

Portantino authored legislation that enables best-practice models of HIV counseling and testing and has led efforts to ensure that California receives its share of federal HIV funding.

The ceremony, on Dec. 1, World AIDS Day, begins at 5:30 p.m. on the steps of Pasadena City Hall.
