Goodbye Santa Teresita Hospital

At its June 7 meeting, the Monrovia City Council will consider zoning changes to facilitate a project to tear down Santa Teresita Hospital (mostly in Duarte but on the border of Monrovia) and replace it with the "Rose Gardens at Santa Teresita." This project will include "skilled nursing facilities as well as assisted living and independent living units in a campus type setting for seniors." The project "will be developed in four phases and the first phase includes construction of a 22-unit assisted living facility located in Monrovia." http://goo.gl/C81ZS

  1. It was unfortunate that the Board of Directors of Santa Teresita Hospital acted as they did to close the acute hospital. It seems like they acted out of panic, instead of as a result of calm reason. There were mutliple options apparently available at the time that could have kept the hospital open, including turning over the running of the hospital to Catholic Healthcare West. Now this area of the San Gabriel Valley has been without an acute care hospital, having to rely more on Arcadia Methodist, with the nearest hospital to the East being Foothill Presbyterian in Glendora. The circumstances that prompted the closure were not as dire as originally thought and a more reflective analysis could have come up with other alternatives.
