I mentioned that you can support the School District by buying gift cards from the district offices. Well, I just got a list of all the businesses involved. They are all national chains, but there are lots of them in our area: Starbucks, Best Buy, Home Depot, Chili's, Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, CVS, Olive Garden, Pinkberry, and scads more. See the attachment to this post for the whole list. (Thanks to School Board President Ed Gililland for that.)

I'm a bit confused. First, you have to go to the school district offices to purchase said cards at whatever price you want to pay. When you then use the card at the designated store, a small percentage goes to "the schools." From what I'm reading the money goes to the Monrovia Schools Foundation, correct? It seems misleading to think that the schools will directly benefit from your gift card purchase. In truth, the money goes into the Foundation account and they determine where it goes next. Is that correct? If not, could someone explain it to me?
ReplyDeleteWell, I think the logic is that the Monrovia Schools Foundation supports the schools.
