Monrovia Schools Summit to Feature Girls in Science, Tech, Engineering, Art, and Math

Monrovia School District will host its inaugural Femineers Summit on Monday, May 1st, 2023, from 6-7 pm at Santa Fe Computer Science Magnet School. The event will showcase the district's first students to complete the science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM) based program. The Femineers program aims to inspire girls to pursue careers in STEAM. The summit is open to the public.

Firefighters Pancake Breakfast May 13

Monrovia Fire Department will hold its annual pancake breakfast on Saturday, May 13 from 7 to 11 a.m. at Fire Station 101 (141 E Lemon Avenue). There will be activities such as a Jr. Firefighter challenge, raffles, displays, and live demonstrations.

~ Monrovia Area Partnership will hold a community meeting Saturday, May 13, from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the Community Center's Monroe Room (119 W. Palm Avenue). [Monrovia Police activities from the Police Department's Neighborhood Watch Report for April 20 – 26. - Brad Haugaard]

During the last seven-day period, the Police Department handled 375 service events, resulting in 71 investigations.

Traffic Collision
April 20 at 8:46 a.m., a caller reported a traffic collision in the 1100 block of S. Magnolia. Officers and paramedics arrived to check on the wellbeing of those involved. No injuries were reported. The driver at fault was issued a citation.

Grand Theft
April 20 at 3:40 p.m., a resident in the 300 block of W. Olive called to report that the catalytic converter from his vehicle was stolen sometime during the night. This investigation is continuing.

Warrant Arrest – Suspect Arrested
April 20 at 9:33 p.m., an officer stopped a vehicle in the area of Duarte and California for a traffic violation. A computer check of the driver revealed an outstanding warrant. The driver was arrested and taken into custody.

Commercial Burglary
April 21 at 3:35 a.m., officers responded to a business burglary alarm in the 700 block of E. Huntington. Officers arrived and saw the rear window was broken. There were no vehicles or people around the restaurant when officers arrived. When officers reviewed the security cameras, it showed two suspects made entry and removed cash. This investigation is continuing.

Non-Injury Traffic Collision
April 21 at 9:29 a.m., a traffic collision was reported in the area of Royal Oaks and Mountain. Officers arrived to check on the wellbeing of everyone involved. No injuries were reported.

Grand Theft
April 21 at 10:26 a.m., a victim in the 700 block of E. Lime reported the catalytic converter of their vehicle was stolen. This investigation is continuing.

Juvenile Problems
April 21 at 7:38 p.m., witnesses in the 200 block of W. Lime called to report that a group of juveniles where throwing rocks at homes. Officers responded and were unable to locate the juveniles. This investigation is continuing.

Mental Evaluation
April 22 at 1:36 p.m., an employee from a business in the 800 block of E. Huntington called to report that a subject was at the residence causing a disturbance. Officers arrived and determined the subject was a danger to himself. He was transported to a local hospital for mental evaluation.

Injury Traffic Collision
April 22 at 3:50 p.m., a caller reported a traffic collision in the area of Duarte and Tenth. Officers and paramedics arrived and checked on the wellbeing of the occupants. One of the occupants was transported to a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries. This investigation is continuing.

Critical Missing
April 22 at 3:53 p.m., an employee from a facility in the 100 block of S. Myrtle called to report that two residents left and did not returned. This investigation is continuing.

Grand Theft Auto Recovery
April 22 at 5:38 p.m., an officer located a stolen vehicle in the 500 block of W. Huntington. A traffic stop was initiated and the driver was arrested. A firearm was located inside the vehicle. This investigation is continuing.

Domestic Violence – Suspect Arrested
April 22 at 6:18 p.m., officers responded to 1100 block of Royal Oaks regarding a domestic violence incident. A married couple was arguing and the female subject slapped the male subject. She tried to prevent him leaving the location by attempting to slash his tires. Officers arrived and arrested the female suspect. She was transported to the MPD jail.

Theft
April 22 at 7:02 p.m., a theft was reported at a store in the 600 block of W. Huntington. The victim’s wallet was stolen while she was shopping at the location. This investigation is continuing.

Hit and Run Traffic Collision
April 22 at 7:06 p.m., officers responded to the area of Mountain and Royal Oaks regarding a hit and run traffic collision. A motorcyclist suffered an accident caused by a group of motorcyclists. He suffered minor injuries and was transported to local hospital for treatment.

Driving Under the Influence – Suspect Arrested
April 22 at 9:32 p.m., while on patrol in the area of Peck and Live Oak an officer saw a motorist commit a traffic violation. The vehicle was stopped and it was determined the driver was intoxicated. He was arrested and transported to the MPD jail to be held for a sobering period.

Hit and Run Traffic Collision
April 23 at 12:31 a.m., officers responded to the area of Mountain and Central regarding two vehicles involved in a traffic collision. The suspect vehicle did not stay behind and fled the scene. The victim suffered injuries and had complaint of pain, but refused medical treatment. This investigation is continuing.

Driving Under the Influence – Suspect Arrested
April 23 at 2:08 a.m., an officer patrolling the area of Myrtle and Longden saw a vehicle commit a traffic offense. A traffic stop was conducted and a DUI investigation revealed the driver was driving under the influence of alcohol. He was arrested and transported to the MPD jail to be held for a sobering period.

Under the Influence of Drugs – Suspects Arrested
April 23 at 2:13 a.m., while patrolling a park in the 1600 block of S. Myrtle an officer saw a female and male subject in the park after hours. The subjects were contacted and they showed signs of being under the influence of a controlled substance. Both suspects were evaluated and found to be under the influence. They were arrested and taken into custody.

Mental Evaluation
April 23 at 2:41 p.m., witnesses in the 300 block of S. Myrtle reported a male adult causing a disturbance. Officers arrived and contacted a male adult who was visibly upset and made comments of hurting people in the park. It was determined he was a danger to others and was transported to a medical facility for a mental evaluation.

April 23 at 6:45 p.m., a stolen vehicle was reported in the 300 block of W. Duarte. This investigation is continuing.

April 23 at 7:06 p.m., a hit and run traffic collision was reported in the area of Monterey and Huntington. This investigation is continuing.

April 23 at 7:20 p.m., a victim in the 500 block of W. Duarte reported his vehicle was stolen. This investigation is continuing.

Court Order Violation
April 23 at 7:29 p.m., a court order violation was reported in the 200 block of Melrose. This investigation is continuing.

Vehicle Burglary
April 24 at 7:32 a.m., a caller reported her vehicle had been broken into during the night in the 100 block of W. Cypress. The suspects then used the victim's credit card at different locations. This investigation is continuing.

Grand Theft / Drugs / Warrant Arrest – Suspect Arrested
April 24 at 11:52 a.m., a female adult entered a business in the 700 block of E. Huntington and took multiple items without paying. Officers arrived and detained the suspect outside of the store along with the stolen items and drug paraphernalia. A computer check revealed she had a warrant. She was arrested and taken into custody.

Fraud
April 24 at 12:59 p.m., a resident from the 500 block of E. Cherry reported someone had stolen her identity. This investigation is continuing.

Grand Theft
April 24 at 6:06 p.m., an employee from the 700 block of E. Huntington reported a theft that occurred earlier in the day and merchandise was stolen. This investigation is continuing.

Grand Theft Auto
April 24 at 6:16 p.m., a victim reported his vehicle was stolen from the 400 block of W. Duarte. This investigation is continuing.

Brandishing a Firearm
April 24 at 8:41 p.m., a witness reported that a male subject in the area of Mountain and Huntington brandished a firearm while in an argument with another male. The subject then left the scene. Officers located the vehicle at a residence nearby but the subject denied being involved. This investigation is continuing.

Stolen License Plate
April 24 at 9:08 p.m., a victim reported that someone stole the rear license plate from his vehicle in the 400 block of Genoa. This investigation is continuing.

Warrant Arrest – Suspect Arrested
April 25 at 9:00 a.m., an officer saw a male subject who was known to have warrants. A warrant check was conducted and the subject had an outstanding warrant for his arrest. He was arrested and taken into custody.

April 25 at 2:29 p.m., an injury traffic collision was reported in the area of Grand and Foothill. A vehicle rear ended a vehicle which caused a chain reaction involving multiple vehicles.

April 25 at 3:52 p.m., a caller from Royal Oaks and Bradbury reported a vehicle had collided into a bicyclist who received minor injuries. This investigation is continuing.

Missing Located
April 25 at 6:24 p.m., a resident from a facility in the 100 block of S. Myrtle who had been reported missing was located.

Domestic Violence – Suspect Arrested
April 26 at 2:09 a.m., a victim in the 900 block of W. Olive reported that her ex-boyfriend slapped her multiple times. The victim sustained minor injuries. The ex-boyfriend was located, arrested and taken into custody.

Vehicle Tampering
April 26 at 3:10 p.m., a caller reported his vehicle was broken into while in a parking lot in the 1600 block of S. Mountain. Officers arrived and determined the vehicle's door lock had only been damaged. This investigation is continuing.

Big Blue - aka 'Big Goofball' - is a 5-Star Sweetheart

Big Blue the handsome husky mix is just waiting for his snuggle buddy! He has affectionately been described as a “big goofball” because he gets a little lost in the moment and trips over himself. He’s probably too busy pondering the mysteries of the universe to watch where he’s going. 

Blue recently was out on a field trip and he received a 5-star rating! He enjoyed meeting new people, seemed very interested in meeting other large dogs and was great at home. 

This sweet guy is just waiting for someone to say; “You’re my boy, Blue”! Is that you? 

The adoption fee for dogs is $150. All dog adoptions include spay or neuter, microchip, and age-appropriate vaccines. 

New adopters will receive a complimentary health-and-wellness exam from VCA Animal Hospitals, as well as a goody bag filled with information about how to care for your pet.

City Manager Dylan Feik reports that Monrovia has just been recognized as a 2022 Tree City USA. He said "there are over 200 species of trees in our public right of ways for a total of 8,500 trees."

Monrovia Historical Society Offers 3D Virtual Walkthrough of Historic George H. Anderson House

Visitors can now tour Monrovia's historic George H. Anderson House museum virtually, thanks to a 3D walkthrough created by Monrovia High School game design and engineering classes led by Dionisio Tafoya of Dionysus Creative, LLC, and coordinated by the San Gabriel Valley Economic Partnership & K12 Foothill Consortium.

The K12 Foothill Consortium represents Azusa, Charter Oak, Duarte and Monrovia Unified School Districts’ Career Technical Education pathways and industry stakeholders. Its mission is to train students and provide a community-based talent pool to sustain a healthy, balanced, local economy.

Using the 3D Matterport system, the students filmed each room in the house and stitched the images together to let visitors seamlessly wander through the home, look up and down and  around.

The George H. Anderson House, at 215 E. Lime Ave. in Monrovia, is one of the very first homes in Monrovia, built in 1886 by John Anderson for his family. April 13 at 5:43 p.m., Arcadia PD reported a stolen vehicle seen driving into Monrovia. An officer located the vehicle at Fifth and Foothill. A high-risk stop ensued and it was discovered the vehicle was mistakenly not removed from the stolen vehicle system by another agency.

April 13 at 8:40 p.m., an employee of a hardware store in the 1600 block of S. Mountain reported two adult males entered the store, took merchandise and fled in two separate vehicles. Officers searched the area for the suspects, but were unable to locate them. This investigation is continuing. 

Vandalism
April 14 at 1:55 a.m., an officer was patrolling the 1600 block of S. Mountain when he discovered graffiti on the wall of a hardware store. Graffiti removal was notified. This investigation is continuing. 

Trespass – Suspect Arrested
April 14 at 8:55 a.m., an employee from a business in the 1300 block of S. Magnolia called to report a male subject violated a no trespass order. Officers arrived and located the subject. He was arrested and taken into custody.

April 14 at 9:20 a.m., a resident in the 800 block of Alta called to report that his vehicle was taken sometime during the night. This investigation is continuing.

April 14 at 9:36 p.m., an officer was patrolling the 2600 block of S. Peck when she discovered an abandoned vehicle. A computer check of the license plate revealed the car had been reported stolen the day prior. No suspects were located. The vehicle was recovered. This investigation is continuing. 

Unlawful Discharge
April 14 at 10:09 p.m., several residents in the area of the 900 block of Crescent called to report hearing several gunshots. Officers responded and located evidence indicating a shooting had taken place. There were no victims and none of the nearby homes were struck. This investigation is continuing.

April 15 at 12:46 a.m., a resident in the 1400 block of S. Alta Vista reported hearing several gun shots in his neighborhood. Officers responded and located evidence indicating a shooting had taken place. There were no victims and none of the nearby homes were struck. This investigation is continuing. 

Driving Under the Influence – Suspect Arrested
April 15 at 1:53 a.m., a driver reported he collided into a parked car in the 1000 block of S. Ivy. Officers responded and located the driver who was heavily intoxicated. He admitted to drinking and driving. A DUI investigation revealed the driver was under the influence. The driver was arrested and taken into custody.

April 15 at 3:16 a.m., an officer was patrolling the 400 block of W. Huntington when he saw a motorist commit a driving violation. He stopped the driver and found she displayed symptoms of being intoxicated. A DUI investigation revealed she was under the influence. She was arrested and taken into custody. 

Domestic Violence / Child Abuse / Battery on Officer – Suspect Arrested
April 15 at 10:51 p.m., a resident in the 900 block of Genoa reported her husband hit her and strangled her. He also battered their 7 month old daughter, not causing injury. Officers arrived and made contact with the suspect. He was arrested and taken into custody. 

Theft – Suspects Arrested
April 16 at 5:03 p.m., an employee from a business in the 400 block of W. Huntington called to report a female subject took merchandise without paying. Officers arrived and located the female subject with a male subject. A computer check revealed that hey both had warrants for their arrest. A search of the male subject revealed he was in possession of drug paraphernalia. They were arrested and taken into custody.

April 17 at 9:03 a.m., officers responded to a business in the 700 block of E. Huntington regarding a disturbing subject. Officers arrived and found a male adult under the influence of narcotics. A computer check revealed the he had a warrant for his arrest. He was arrested and taken into custody. 

Non-Injury Traffic Collision
April 17 at 3:52 p.m., a two vehicle collision was reported in the area of Myrtle and Central. One driver was cited for the moving violation while the other received a citation for not having insurance. 

Petty Theft
April 17 at 5:30 p.m., officers responded to a business in the 400 block of W. Huntington regarding a male stealing items. The suspect fled before officers arrived. It was discovered the suspect took a large amount of merchandise without paying and fled. This investigation is continuing. 

Missing Person / Located
April 17 at 7:47 p.m., a concerned citizen reported to MPD a missing subject and had little information. Several hours later the subject was located and removed from the system. 

Grand Theft Auto Recovery
April 18 at 9:20 a.m., a caller reported a suspicious vehicle parked in the 1700 block of Rosewood. Officers arrived and a computer check revealed the vehicle was reported stolen. The vehicle's owner was contacted. This investigation is continuing. 

Vehicle Burglary
April 18 at 12:24 p.m., a caller reported his vehicle was broken into while parked in a parking lot in the 1600 block of S. Mountain. The victim reported property was stolen. This investigation is continuing. 

Grand Theft
April 18 at 2:58 p.m., a subject walked into a business in the 500 block of W. Huntington and stole multiple items. The suspect fled the store and was caught nearby. The subject complained to be injured prior to police contact so the MFD was called to the location. The suspect was transported to a local hospital. 

Court Order Violation
April 18 at 11:23 p.m., officers responded to the 400 block of Hurstview regarding a court order violation. The subject violated his restraining order by throwing a bottle at his neighbor's house. This investigation is continuing. 

Mental Evaluation
April 19 at 12:32 a.m., the same subject from the 400 block of Hurstview tried to attack his parents. He was held down until police arrived. It was determined that he was a danger to others and was transported to a medical facility for a mental evaluation. 

Public Intoxication – Suspect Arrested
April 19 at 11:05 a.m., a caller reported an intoxicated male in the 100 block of W. Foothill. Officers arrived and found a male who could not care for himself. The subject was arrested and transported to the MPD jail to be held for a sobering period. 

Injury Traffic Collision
April 19 at 3:25 p.m., a vehicle collision was reported in the area of Huntington and Monterey. Both parties were treated at the scene for minor injuries. This investigation is continuing. 

Residential Burglary
April 19 at 6:15 p.m., a resident reported that sometime between April 15th and April 19th, someone burglarized his garage in the 300 block of W. Lemon. Tools and electronics were taken. This investigating is continuing. 

Commercial Burglary
April 19 at 11:42 p.m., a security guard witnessed a subject force open a door and enter the building in the 200 block of E. Huntington. The subject emerged shortly after with a stolen package. The security guard followed the subject and called the Police. Officers arrived and tried to stop the subject but he ran off. A short foot pursuit ensued. As the subject attempted to jump a fence into an apartment complex, officers grabbed him and placed him under arrest. The subject complained of multiple previous medical conditions and was transported to the hospital. He was issued an emergency citation.
