During the last seven-day period, the Police Department handled 404 service events, resulting in 60 investigations.

Vandalism
March 3 at 7:22 a.m., an officer was patrolling the 300 block of S. Primrose when they saw spray paint on the backside of the band shell. Public Works was notified. This investigation is continuing.

Grand Theft Auto
March 3 at 10:19 a.m., a resident in the 200 block of E. Central called to report that his vehicle was stolen sometime during the night. This investigation is continuing.

Public Intoxication – Suspect Arrested
March 3 at 1:07 p.m., a caller reported a male adult was passed out on the sidewalk near the intersection of Cypress and Alta Vista. Officers arrived and checked on the subject's well-being. There were two open bottles of alcohol next to him. He woke up and it was determined he was too intoxicated to care for himself. He was arrested and transported to the Monrovia Police Department jail for a sobering period.

Shooting / Possession of a Firearm – Suspects Arrested
March 3 at 11:01 pm, two officers were dispatched to an apartment complex in the 300 block of W. Olive regarding a loud party. As officers were entering the interior court yard, they saw multiple subjects near the rear patio area fighting. Simultaneously, someone in the crowd fired one gunshot. Officers retreated behind cover as the group scattered. Multiple subjects ran south towards the alley. The Officers detained over 10 subjects in the court yard, including one subject who was in possession of a "ghost" gun. Two arrests were made. It did not appear that anyone was struck by the gunfire.

Drug Paraphernalia – Suspect Arrested
March 4 at 3:33 am, a bicyclist was stopped for a traffic violation near the intersection of Myrtle and Evergreen. The subject consented to a search and the officer located a meth pipe in his pocket. He was arrested.

Warrant Arrest – Suspect Arrested
March 4 at 11:33 a.m., a traffic stop on a vehicle for a vehicle code violation was conducted near the intersection of Huntington and California. Further investigation revealed the driver had an outstanding $100,000 warrant for his arrest for weapons. The driver was arrested and taken into custody.

Trespassing
March 4 at 8:06 a.m., officers responded to the top of a parking structure in the 100 block of W. Colorado regarding several juveniles on the roof top. Two juveniles were located on the roof of the structure. Officers contacted the HOA, who desired prosecution for trespassing. The two juveniles were issued a citation out in the field and their parents were contacted. They were released to their parents.

Domestic Violence
March 5 at 7:06 a.m., a victim in the 700 block of W. Huntington reported her boyfriend slapped her during an argument. The boyfriend left prior to officer arrival. This investigation is continuing.

Grand Theft
March 5 at 12:41 p.m., a victim in the 700 block of Royal Oaks reported several catalytic converters to his vehicles had been stolen sometime overnight. This investigation is continuing.

Mail Theft
March 5 at 1:20 p.m., a victim in the 800 block of S. Myrtle reported a package mailed to her had been stolen. This investigation is continuing.

Driving Under the Influence – Suspect Arrested
March 5 at 7:48 p.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop for speed violation in the area of Primrose and Pomona. Further investigation revealed, the driver was driving while under the influence of alcohol. Field sobriety tests were conducted and she was subsequently arrested for DUI. The driver was transported to Monrovia Police Department jail for a sobering period.

Grand Theft Auto
March 5 at 8:16 p.m., a victim in the 600 block of W. Huntington stated her vehicle had been stolen from a parking lot. The vehicle was stolen at approximately 9:30 p.m. The victim left the vehicle unlocked and the keys in the center console. The vehicle was entered into the stolen vehicle system. This investigation is continuing.

Traffic Collision / Driving Under the Influence – Suspect Arrested
March 6 at 12:05 a.m., officers responded to the area of Foothill and Mountain regarding a traffic collision. The driver was texting on her cell phone when she made an unsafe turning movement and struck a parked vehicle. Investigation revealed she was driving under the influence of alcohol. The driver was arrested and transported to Monrovia Police Department jail for a sobering period.

Battery
March 6 at 10:07 a.m., officers were dispatched to a fight in progress at a business in the 1600 block of S. Mountain Ave. One of the involved parties had been pepper sprayed. Officers responded and ushered Monrovia Fire Department personnel into the scene to provide treatment. The subjects both wanted prosecution against each other. The case will be filed with the District Attorney's Office.

Fraud
March 6 at 11:35 a.m., a victim in the 500 block of S. Magnolia Ave. reported that her recently issued EBT card was almost immediately fraudulently accessed and emptied of funds remotely. This investigation is continuing.

Missing Persons
March 6 at 4:56 p.m., residents in the 400 block of Highland called to report that a group had gone hiking on a poorly marked trail nearby and two of them fell off the side. Officers responded and coordinated with the Pasadena PD helicopter and the Monrovia Fire and Rescue personnel. The helicopter was able to find the lost hikers and direct them to where they could be safely evacuated by MFD personnel on the ground.

Under the Influence of a Controlled Substance – Suspects Arrested
March 6 at 9:49 p.m., a shoplifting was reported at a business in the 100 block of W. Foothill. The business decided they did not desire prosecution since their items were recovered. Both subjects displayed signs and symptoms of being under the influence of a controlled substance. Evaluations were conducted on both subjects and they were subsequently arrested for being under the influence. They were transported to the Monrovia Police Department jail for a sobering period.

Driving Under the Influence – Suspect Arrested
March 7 at 2:47 a.m., an officer in the area of Mountain and Palm noticed a vehicle stopped along the east curb of Mountain at Palm with vomit along the driver's door. A subject was slumped over in the driver's seat. The engine was running and the windows were rolled down. The subject stated he had been driving and then pulled over. Investigation revealed he had been driving under the influence of alcohol. He was arrested and transported to Monrovia Police Department jail for a sobering period.

Assault with a Deadly Weapon – Suspect Arrested
March 7 at 12:47 p.m., dispatch received a call of a possible drunk driver in the area of 100 S. Myrtle. The license plate was given to dispatch and the vehicle returned with an address in Monrovia. Officers arrived at the address and the vehicle was parked in the driveway. Officers made contact with a subject who was positively identified as being the driver. It was also discovered that the subject detained was a suspect being reported in an assault with a deadly weapon. The subject was arrested and taken into custody.

Attempted Bicycle Theft
March 8 at 4:18 a.m., officers responded to the 1200 block of S. Alta Vista regarding an attempted bicycle theft. The suspects climbed the apartment railing to the second floor balcony and took a bicycle. The resident heard the suspect taking the bicycle and chased after him south on Alta Vista. The suspect threw the bicycle down and continued on foot. This investigation is continuing.

Drug Offenses – Suspects Arrested
March 8 at 7:41 a.m., a caller stated there was a vehicle parked in the area of 400 Bella Vista which was occupied by a female who she saw outside the vehicle urinating. Officers arrived and when making contact with the female, discovered another male was in the vehicle. While speaking with them, the officers saw drug paraphernalia inside the vehicle. A consent search of the vehicle revealed drug paraphernalia and drugs. The vehicle was also expired over 6 months. The vehicle was stored and the subjects were issued a citation.

Vehicle Burglary
March 8 at 6:54 p.m., an officer was dispatched to the parking lot of a business in the 700 block of W. Huntington regarding a vehicle burglary. The victim parked and entered the store for a short time. When she came back out, she saw her window was smashed and her stereo was missing. This investigation is continuing.

Grand Theft
March 9 at 10:39 a.m., the owner of a business in the 700 block of E. Huntington reported that last week a female purchased approximately $3,000 worth of flooring. The business uses a third party for payments of merchandise. The purchase order was approved and the female received her flooring from their warehouse in Azusa. A week later, they received notice from the third party that the payment made by the female was fraudulent. This investigation is continuing.

Warrant Arrest / Municipal Code Violation – Suspect Arrested
March 9 at 2:53 p.m., an employee in the 300 block of S. Myrtle called to say a known male transient had stacked tables and chairs around the area he was sitting and said nobody could sit near him. They asked him to put the tables and chairs back and he refused. Officers arrived and a computer check revealed he had several outstanding warrants for his arrest. He was arrested per the authority of the warrants and for the municipal code violation of interfering with library services and taken into custody.

All Five Monrovia Robotics Teams Win Awards

Each of the five competing Monrovia High robotics team won an award at the LA Regional robotics qualifying tournament held at MHS on Feb. 19. Four of the five teams qualified to compete in the LA Regional Championship, to be hosted by Monrovia High School on March 12.

Raggedy Ann is a Super Friendly Chatty Catty


Two-year-old Raggedy Ann is super friendly and loves people! She’s pretty chatty, and will probably use her meow to get your attention. School District Honors Patty Treliving

Monrovia Unified held a memorial gathering for Patty Treliving, an after-school program coordinator for Monrovia Unified School District who died in July of 2021. Students and staff from gathered at Monroe Elementary to remember her with a rock trail with stones that had different messages of love for Patty and her family.

Community Members Read to School Children for Read Across America


Monrovia School District had volunteers reading to kids at a majority of school sites for Read Across America Week. District partners like Monrovia Reads, Foothill Credit Union, and others helped make sure many of our classrooms had a volunteer to read a book. Many MUSD administrators and Board of Education members also joined in on the reading.

Suicide Prevention Kits; Old Town Historic Walking Tour; Preventing Deadly Citrus Disease

~ March is Suicide Prevention and Mental Health Awareness Month in Monrovia and the library has eight Mental Health and Wellness Book Kits on such topics as: anxiety, depression, grief, mindfulness and stress relief; substance abuse; postpartum depression; PTSD, and; mental health and wellness. The kits can be checked out for six weeks. For more information contact the library at 256-8274.

~  The Monrovia Historic Preservation Group will hold an Historic Walking Tour in Downtown Monrovia on Saturday, March 5 beginning at 10 a.m. Meet at the southeast corner of Myrtle and Palm, across from Library Park. Cost is $5 per person, the tour lasts about two hours, and RSVPs are not necessary.

~ Here are tips to prevent the spread of the deadly citrus tree disease, Huanglongbing (HLB), which is spread by a tiny insect called the Asian citrus psyllid that feeds on citrus leaves. There is no cure.

Before moving fruit from your property ...

  • Remove all leaves, stems and branches. 
  • Wash fruit thoroughly. 
  • Fully open bags carrying your citrus, dump and shake them out, and remove any stems, leaves, or other debris. 
  • Inspect clothes, personal items, and vehicles for plant materials and brush them off.

To report any suspected findings of the disease, call the California Department of Food and Agriculture at (800) 491-1899.

Vehicle Burglary
February 24 at 6:09 a.m., a resident in the 100 block of Los Angeles called to report that his vehicle was broken into sometime during the night. This investigation is continuing.

Grand Theft Auto Recovery
February 24 at 1:49 p.m., an officer was patrolling the area of Peck and Live Oak when he saw an unoccupied vehicle parked in the area. A computer check revealed the vehicle was stolen. The vehicle was recovered and the registered owner was notified.

Injury Traffic Collision
February 24 at 3:39 p.m., a caller reported a traffic collision between a bicycle and a motorist in the area of Eighth and Duarte. Officers and Monrovia Paramedics arrived and checked on the well-being of the occupants. The bicyclist had minor injuries. This investigation is continuing.

Vehicle Burglary
February 24 at 6:50 p.m., a vehicle burglary was reported in the 500 block of E. Olive. The victim reported that tools were stolen from his truck. The investigation is continuing.

Vandalism
February 24 a 7:48 p.m., a victim reported someone slashed her tires while parked behind a business in the 600 block of W. Huntington. This investigation is continuing.

Assault / Burglary / Threatening / Stalking
February 24 at 10:07 p.m., a victim in the 900 block of E. Lemon called to report that her boyfriend's ex-girlfriend entered through her bedroom window and assaulted her. During the investigation, officers discovered the ex-girlfriend had broken in to the residence several days ago and stole several items from the residence. Officers also discovered the suspect had been stalking the victim. A temporary restraining order was obtained. The investigation is continuing.

Vandalism / Suspicious Person
February 24 at 11:24 p.m., officers were dispatched to a residence in the 700 block of E. Palm when a window was smashed at the location. During the investigation, officers learned that the resident was locking up the house when he observed a male subject walking up the driveway. The resident opened the door and yelled out to the subject. The subject indicated he wanted to buy marijuana. The resident stated that he uses marijuana, but he does not sell it. The subject insisted that he sell him some marijuana, but when refused the subject left and walked around the residence and threw a rock through the kitchen window which broke the window and struck the refrigerator.

Warrant Arrest
February 25 at 1:30 a.m., a caller reported a wanted subject had checked into a motel in the 700 block of W. Huntington. Officers arrived and set up. The subject exited the room and was taken into custody without incident. The subject was arrested and taken into custody.

Overdose
February 25 at 2:13 a.m., an overdose was reported in the 800 block of W. Foothill. He was treated by paramedics and transported to a local hospital.

Hit and Run Traffic Collision
February 25 at 2:25 p.m., an employee from a business in the 400 block of W. Foothill called to report that a vehicle just crashed into the front window of their business and fled the scene. Officers responded and located the vehicle in the area. The driver was arrested and taken into custody.

Burglary
February 26 at 7:54 a.m., a caller reported their property had been broken into in the 200 block of Linwood sometime during the night. Officers arrived and determined the property was currently being renovated. This investigation is continuing.

Drug Activity
February 26 at 8:45 p.m., officers were dispatched to the area of 300 W. Huntington Dr. regarding a vehicle swerving in and out of lanes. An officer located a vehicle matching the description and conducted a traffic stop. The officer observed a plastic baggie containing a white substance sticking out of the subject's left shirt pocket. Investigation revealed the subject was in possession of cocaine. The subject was arrested.

Shoplifting / Assault
February 26 at 9:00 p.m., an employee from a business in the 600 block of W. Huntington stated that a subject stole merchandise and assaulted their security guard. Investigation revealed that a subject was about to exit the store without paying. The security guard reached into the subject's bag and retrieved the items and a brief argument ensued. The subject then swung at the security guard but the security guard ducked. The suspect fled the location. This investigation is continuing.

Petty Theft / Warrant Arrest
February 26 at 9:09 p.m., officers were flagged down at a business in the 500 block of W. Huntington while they were investigating another incident, regarding a subject that just fled their store with stolen merchandise. The subject was located and detained. The property was recovered and no prosecution was desired; however, the subject had an outstanding outside warrant. The subject was arrested per authority of the warrant and transported to Monrovia Police Department jail for booking.

Residential Burglary
February 26 at 11:27 p.m., a resident in the 400 block of Meadow Lane called stating their house was broken into. The incident occurred sometime during the evening hours. The suspect(s) broke the rear glass door to make entry. Once inside, the suspect(s) ransacked the rooms but nothing appeared stolen at the time. This investigation is continuing.

Drug Activity
February 28 at 11:18 a.m., a witness called to state that a subject wearing all red went into the backyard of a residence in the 500 block of N. Magnolia. It didn't appear to be the homeowner or anyone associated with the residence. Officers responded and located the subject in the rear yard. It was a female transient known from prior contacts. A consensual search revealed a glass pipe commonly used to smoke methamphetamine. She was arrested and taken into custody.

Grand Theft Auto
February 28 at 12:39 p.m., a victim in the 300 block of W. Chestnut came in and reported his Ford van had been stolen from the location. The last time he saw it at the location was five days ago. There was no evidence located and nobody else had permission to drive the vehicle. The vehicle was entered as stolen.

March 1 at 8:12 a.m., a victim in the 800 block of W. Walnut came into the Monrovia Police Department lobby to report her EBT account had been compromised. It is unknown who or how it occurred and she did not give anyone permission to access her account. This investigation is continuing.

March 1 at 9:03 a.m., a victim in the 300 block of W. Cypress came into the Monrovia Police Department lobby to report her EBT account had been compromised. It is unknown who or how it occurred and she did not give anyone permission to access her account. This investigation is continuing.

Officers arrived and recognized the individual from previous contacts. A computer check revealed he had an outstanding warrant for his arrest. Officers arrested the subject and took him into custody.

March 1 at 1:27 p.m., a victim in the 1800 block of S. Peck came to Monrovia Police Department lobby to report her EBT account had been compromised. It is unknown who or how it occurred and she did not give anyone permission to access her account. This investigation is continuing.

Fraud
March 1 at 2:30 p.m., a victim in the 500 block of W. Duarte called to report someone has opened accounts in her name without her permission. She is now receiving letters from collections companies regarding payment to the accounts that she did not open. This investigation is continuing.

Theft
March 1 at 10:40 p.m., the alarm service for a business in the 3300 block of S. Peck called and said they were watching two suspects throwing car parts over the south fence. One suspect was last seen running south from the property. Officers did an area check and located three rims and tires near the suspects’ vehicle off Danes & Eighth in the City of Arcadia. The suspects were never located and the property was returned to the owner. The suspects’ vehicle was towed for expired registration.

Non-Injury Traffic Collision
March 2 at 6:53 a.m., a non-injury traffic collision was reported in the area of Los Angeles and Ivy. A vehicle traveling east continued through the intersection and struck the front end of the other vehicle. The driver of the vehicle failing to stop for the posted stop sign was issued a citation.

Domestic Violence
March 2 at 11:21 p.m., officers responded to 200 block of E. Walnut regarding possible domestic violence. The male suspect fled in a vehicle prior to officers arriving. The victim told officers her husband became violent during an argument and punched her in the face. Officers searched the area for the suspect but couldn't find him. The suspect was entered as a wanted person into the system.
