Along with hundreds of other editorial personnel at the Patch family of news websites, Melanie Johnson, who has been covering Monrovia for Monrovia Patch, has been laid off. In a "Thanks and Goodbye!" letter on the site, she thanks the community and writes: "I am posting to let you know that Patch was recently purchased by a company who has decided to do some restructuring. As a result, the local editor positions have been eliminated, including mine." http://goo.gl/hJYL5F
Comment: I regret this. I never believed in the Patch business model, but I've always appreciated the bold experiment in local journalism, and Patch always kept me on my toes. I felt good when I beat Patch and bad when Patch beat me. It was exciting. Best wishes, Melanie!
