At its February 1 meeting, the Monrovia City Council will consider paying Cordoba Corporation $157,705 to put a lid on the wash at Fifth Avenue and Huntington Drive.
The city figures the land - part of the Monrovia Redevelopment Agency area - will be more sell-able if Santa Anita Wash is covered so it doesn't chop the land into two parts. The cover will increase the parking area and improve access for both parcels.

I sure wish they would have discussed the financial details on this project. How many hundreds of thousands of dollars to cover a river and increase parking by how much? Whats the timeline in the ROI?Also worthing mention, Ron Bow (our public works director) also hopes to permanently close the adjacent trail as part of this project. Both Arroyo High School and Arcadia High School x-country running teams and numerous other runners/bicyclists use that trail for training. As ugly as the trail maybe, it's all we have on the west side for those that enjoy outdoor exercise without being in close proximity to motor vehicle traffic. This trail is part of a system that stretches from Seal Beach to the national forest - what a shame to break it up.I've been by there twice this past week; no homeless and just 2 beer can and a paper cup. Took 2 seconds to pick them up. Really, close our only urban trail for litter???
